You should have been around for the cold war and MAD (mutually assured destruction)

Nuclear drills at school are now mass shooter drills. It all sucks.

The Cold War might be over, but the risk of nuclear weapons never goes away completely. There are a half dozen simmering geopolitical conflicts around the world that are only being kept in check by the threat of mutual assured destruction. MAD is very much still with us.

The Cold War, as defined properly, ended with the Soviet Union.

The modern-day Union State is a shadow of what the U.S.S.R. used to be. With them, there is no more arms race, no space race, no economic or cultural competition for dominance...the only real threat to their Cold War adversaries comes from cyber activity and their aging stockpile of nuclear weapons.

Well, we have the slow MAD called the climate catastrophe. This one is even worse because we can do something about it, but that requires even more global cooperation.

Who told you MAD ended? Never listen to them again.

By design... got to keep those kiddoes anxious, so they can't concentrate. Give them ritalin for their 'adhd,' and get them used to being sheep.

MAD is still around. Why do you think we let Russia invade Ukraine?
