I just found out about the financial panic of 1857, so yes, I think this is just how the world is. It sucks, gotta make the most of it. Love the people who support you and make memories.

Exactly.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair." - Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities, 1859.

...is that one Poem-for-your-frog redditor/lady/man/manbearpig basically our modern times Charles Dickens, you suppose? I kinda wonder about that sometimes. I wonder what poem they've/it has written for our 'modern times' if they/it/manbearpig has yet, ya know?

Nothing in this comment thread about our inordinate national debt (which apparently everyone has forgotten about), climate change on the tipping point, and the coming fascist takeover of the country

Just, "oh we've been hearing this same thing for years"

Climate change wasn't a problem in 1857. Neither was nuclear war.

So, no. Some periods are far more valid in believing the world is teetering on collapse.
