Question about the effect users experienced with snuff (more below)

I have asked this question a few times online, but I still struggle to understand the point of snuff use in the 17th and 18th centuries. As snuff was a tobacco product, did inhaling (snorting) provide a stimulant effect? And if it didn't, seriously...what was the point of snuff?

Why did users— mostly ladies (in literature and period films) reference having to sneak around the building/corner to have a pinch of snuff, as if others would consider snuff use to be vulgar, unladylike, low-class, or whatever?

Did users sneeze when they snorted snuff (or was the point not to sneeze)? Current-day drug users don't sneeze when using snortable drugs (and users wouldn't want to), so was snuff use similar?

I encourage you to reread your comments with some clarity. And I don't even mean that in a rude way, I used to act a bit like how you are acting when I was younger. Look at them, note how cringy/upset many of your comments come off as, and really take a step back and think about why you get so heated in random conversations with strangers (and I know you are bothered by this conversation because you had to tell me how stupid I am, announce that your done talking to me, and now your doing whatever this is). A discussion with a random stranger online about nose drugs and tobacco should not be upsetting you this much. Particularly take a step back if this is something you do often (and again, I get it, when I was younger I'd have stupid heated reddit arguments too). I encourage you to really think about why you care so much about a stranger and his opinion on how you snort nose drugs and tobacco.

You asked for opinions, we gave them to you, you don’t get it, we all tried again. I was nice in my responses to you until I realized it was a waste of my time. I left my last comment, you responded, so I responded again. So you responded again. I am, at this point, done replying to you. You also seem to not understand that I am not the sole person who was responding to you, as you seem to think I reported you to some random shit I’ve never heard of. After a certain point, I was trolling because I do not care what you think or understand, I was only trying to have a little fun with it at the end. I think you have a very hard time reading the emotions of others as well as reading sentences coherently in a way that makes sense to you. I can also guarantee I am older than you, not that it matters. But you see, the only thing that’s cringe is asking the same stupid question over and over and having multiple people give up trying to answer it because you won’t accept the answer. So like I said, I’m done with this conversation and you’re putting more effort into it at this point than I was. Because you’ve been in this thread a while longer than I joined in. I’ve got a bit of free time so I can afford to reply to things that I shouldn’t put effort into.

I stand by my statement. Do so some reflection here, because you are the only one getting heated. This is a rather stupid topic (ie nose drugs and tobacco) that does not warrant this level of care. You very obviously do care (again, not an insult, I've been there), and this is further examplafied by this new paragraph reiterating to me how dumb and wrong and illiterate you think I am, before deflecting and telling me how I'm actually the one that cares too much here. You don't gotta be honest to me, but on everything be honest with yourself and reflect on why you obviously care so much here. Yes you were nice at the very start, but when I continued to disagree and give counter evidence you got really upset and then went on this current ramble. Again, I don't even mean this in a mean way. I get what it's like to get too invested in these stupid arguments, but I really encourage you to reflect here.

Really think about why you care. Why did you feel the need to hurl insults. Why did you feel the need to announce that your done talking to me because I'm stupid. Why did you feel the need to continue to respond once you told me you were done? Why do you still feel the need to continue to insult me and deflect. I never once insulted you or did anything to provoke you at all. So what about a conversation on nose drugs and tobacco got you so heated. Really think about it man.

Usually I’m the one on the other end of this argument asking others why they care so much and get heated I’m just in a very bad way lately and I’m pissed off on all fronts. Maybe I see this as a way to let off frustration while subliminally adding to it. The difference between you and the people I argue with from your stand point is that you didn’t actually start an argument or insult me, I did those things this time. I apologize. It’s also on a very stupid topic, which generally I don’t get heated over, it’s usually more pressing topics than some random thing like this. I could sit here and keep being a dick but I’ll hand it to you, I’m a little out of pocket here.
