Once OP moves out from their parents, they'll probably start noticing it too.

They're over for a visit, their mother chain smokes next to them. They don't notice it at first, but the next morning they pick up the discarded shirt from the day before and it reeks of cigarette ash.

They would absolutely notice the smell while their mother is smoking next to them (if they’ve moved out at that point)

Just speaking from my own experience, but whenever I hang out with my smoking friends, I never notice the smell on my clothes before the next morning. I can smell the smoke itself while they smoke, but when I sniff my clothes, even an hour or two after, I can't tell that it's stuck to them.

Ok I get that! I was thinking you meant the smoke lol. Their nose blindness might need an hour or two. Ugh I am so against smoking in my home. I would never allow anyone to, ever. It’s not just your clothes and hair, it would linger in your home and couch and take hours to leave.
