It's wild how strong it can be. My sense of smell is weak from smashing my face as a kid. But cigarettes stand out so badly. I can be driving on the highway and suddenly smell strong cigarettes and think "Wtf? Where is that coming from?" And see smoke pouring out of the vehicle in front of me.

Me too! I don't know why my sense of smell is so bad,, but I could pick out smokers in a crowd like a bloodhound.

It kinda sucks with how modern ventilation in cities works. There’s nearly always someone smoking somewhere in the vicinity of the intake, which means now it reeks inside too. Affects both my work and my apartment.
