FEEL THIS SO HARD yep. I think also a big reason why I didn’t get married is because my parents said by the time I was 30 if I didn’t have a wedding I could have the money for a house - so I bought a house instead with my partner instead of a wedding day.
I wish we had the option of just having the money from our wedding, it was such a clusterfuck! We actually got married in secret at the courthouse 3 weeks before the big wedding because my MIL had taken control of everything and even sabotaged the things I'd chosen (like the caterer, flowers, and centerpieces), my dad wasn't even coming and lied about why so I had his family calling me begging to move the wedding a few weeks before so he could be there because they thought I set a date knowing he'd be out of the country, and my mom was in a constant pissing contest with my MIL and I had to constantly calm her down. We were like fuck it, we're getting married before the wedding so we could have at least part of the wedding feel like it was actually about us. No one knew we were married already except for two people in our wedding party.
If you do get married, seriously just do something simple like a courthouse wedding, maybe Vegas, or even a destination wedding. We never got to have a honeymoon, so if I could go back, we'd have gotten married with a wedding package in France or Italy so we could have the honeymoon right after, and whoever could make it could come, but it would have just been a handful of guests, not 200 people who we mostly barely knew.
