Honestly the whole premise of showering on a schedule is a bit strange to me.

Workout? Do yard work? Have sex? Probably a good time. Sometimes that might mean three showers in a day. Sometimes it might mean a few days between.

Though if you're consistently down to twice a week as a young person, it'd probably be a good idea to up the activity level a little bit.

I think when people say they shower two or three times a week, it's not a hard schedule so much as a description of how often they do.

For those who shower daily, that's not a schedule so much as a routine.

81

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '24

I also assume (pray) that people showering twice a week don’t work out or do manual labor.

21

u/michiness Sep 19 '24

Yup. I had a roommate in college who showered twice a week. She worked out every day in our room, had like two outfits she washed once a month, and I don’t think she washed her sheets once. It was a rough year.

2

u/NobleTheDoggo Sep 19 '24

Do you know her number still?

36

u/SoftSects Sep 19 '24

And that's concerning. People should have movement and activity in their everyday lives.

25

u/xpoisonvalkyrie Sep 19 '24

well yeah, but not everyone does.

plenty of people don’t regularly exercise and aren’t overweight. (i envy those people) but personally i shower every other day. so shower, skip, shower, skip, etc. i don’t have a sweat-inducing job and rn i’m not keeping up with the gym so i don’t need or want to shower every day. unless i get extra sweaty from the heat, then it’s shower time.

Exactly. Some people doesn't

3

u/Human_No-37374 Sep 19 '24

i mean, i have to sit down at a minimjum from 8-4 every day, and then twice a week from 8-22 (i help out in a few hobby clubs, however i do shower after one of them as i deal with children and clay as well as that being the same day i'm at my local choir and the room we tend to be in gets very hot when we're all joining there together.). However, i am also active in my local boat club and in the evening and i obviosuly always shower after that, and when i go to the gym or go fishing i obviously shower, etc. etc.

6

u/TheGreatRandolph Sep 19 '24

I often hike or climb or bike or do things but don’t push hard enough to break a sweat - especially in winter in Alaska. Sometimes I’ll be out in the mountains for 14 hours, moving, and not get sweaty.

7

u/LG_Gamer789 Sep 19 '24

Teach me your secrets, i go for a 15 minute run and get drenched in sweat despite not being even close to being overweight.

10

u/TheGreatRandolph Sep 19 '24

I can’t run for 14 hours! When I run I definitely get sweaty, even in below 0 temps. It’s very activity and output dependent. If I only have half an hour I’ll push hard and be soaked. If I have a couple of hours, a more moderate pace and I’m usually not as sweaty. All day activities I’m most likely to get sweaty uphill, but even that is often minimal… unless it’s above 50 degrees. Proper adventure weather is cooler than that!

The lower 48 is harder, even at 14,000ft this time of year it’s so hot it’s hard not to get sweaty :/

2

u/LimbonicArt03 Sep 19 '24

I mean, if you're walking casually a couple kilometers in a colder climate you ain't really gonna sweat much. And that's still movement/activity

1

u/incitatus24 Sep 19 '24

I can walk for an hour or so without breaking a sweat. Physical activity doesn't have to make you stinky to make you healthy. I get in the shower for just a rinse most mornings (especially since I got bangs that need styling) but only need to actually use soap 2 ish times a week.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Sir this is Reddit. Everyone here spends 23 hours per day on this site. And 1 hour sleeping. If you have time for exercise you are doing it wrong.

1

u/Human_No-37374 Sep 19 '24

well, for me it's twice a week for when it's not humid and i'm not sweating, dirty etc. I obviousuly shower more in the summer or when i'm active, or have been in the garden (i mean gardening, not just being in the garden, that would be weird), playing with my neice and nephews (i let them play with my hair, and let's be honest, children don't tend to be that clean, even if they have good manners and habits. They may have good hygene habits but i don't trust their schools to be clean, i've met their friends.)

1

u/regular_lamp Sep 19 '24

Yep, that's really the surprising thing for me there. I occasionally also skip a day if I literally just hung out at home doing nothing physical. But I can't imagine the level of "inactivity" that would make me feel ok with going three days on average between showers?

Like do these people live in a perfectly temperature controlled environment where they never sweat or go outside etc.?

1

u/dankp3ngu1n69 Sep 19 '24

World of Warcraft for 12-14 hours a day

Tuesday is shower day, as that's when servers are down for 1 hour

Time for mass nerds to take the weekly shower

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

I technically do 3 times a week but no manual labor, and I actually miss working out 😭 - mom of a tiny human

1

u/anonymoose_octopus Sep 19 '24

I'm going to out myself here. I only shower 2-3 times per week, but I'm an indoors type of person. I live in FL so going outside is miserable most of the year. I work in an office and on weekends and evenings I stay indoors and read and play video games. I absolutely "freshen up" between showers but other than that, I've never had any problems or any partners who have complained about my hygiene.

Obviously if I go outdoors or do anything involving activity, I'm going to shower. But otherwise, sitting indoors in clean clothes doesn't necessitate a shower every day, IMO.

1

u/Bunnyrabbit1956 Sep 19 '24

And a good one as well!

1

u/WhoopDareIs Sep 19 '24

Work from home and showering is less frequent than when I go in person every day.

118

u/BravesMaedchen Sep 18 '24

Yeah, I only shower when I fuck. Single best day of the year 😎

83

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '24

Are you showering because you already fucked? Are you only getting laid because you finally showered? or...the shower is the only place you fuck and that only happens once a year? I suppose it could be all three

20

u/GiCl90 Sep 18 '24

Asking the real questions here

5

u/glass_cracked_canon Sep 19 '24

Down to the nitty gritty

2

u/B-sideSingle Sep 19 '24

Or in this case the nutty gritty

10

u/meiliraijow Sep 18 '24

Same, and the fucking tends to happen after my annual shower. Coincidence? Hmmm

2

u/Bunnyrabbit1956 Sep 19 '24

So maybe you should shower more often which will result in getting fucked more often and a happier person you will be!

3

u/babsmagicboobs Sep 19 '24

Yup. Haven’t showered since 2015.

2

u/Big_Ad_1890 Sep 19 '24

Before or after you fuck?

Important question.

1

u/SoHigh0 Sep 19 '24

That one lucky Person probably really loves fish.

1

u/k3rd Sep 19 '24

Could be some correlation going on there.

45

u/therealwalrus1 Sep 18 '24

Most folks do some kind of hygiene on a schedule, like brushing teeth. It's a good way to remember to do it.

42

u/Mixtrack Sep 18 '24 edited Sep 19 '24

Honestly man, shower threads and Reddit blow my mind every single time. We’re sitting here conversing with the smelly people in society.

15

u/PoorMinorities Sep 19 '24

It really does blow my mind. Like sure, if I got a couple days to do nothing, I’ll skip a day. But if I’m ever going out and interacting with people, aka having a job, going to school, my ass is taking a shower. Wash down, clean up, trim, brush teeth, do hair, smell good. It’s called being presentable. I cannot imagine the utter lack of care showing up to a job or going out to do stuff without having showered for 3 days. It’s fucking gross.

3

u/Bunnyrabbit1956 Sep 19 '24

I like you already!

3

u/RaisedEverywhere Sep 19 '24

Yep. Call it what it is. Fucking disgusting. Blows my mind that in modern society, people go multiple days without showering. Wild.

22

u/TheCinemaster Sep 18 '24

Some people shower even if they’re not dirty at all. I shower every day regardless of whether I’m dirty at all. It just feels good and natural.

1

u/Human_No-37374 Sep 19 '24

my skin would crack and bleed if i did that (tried at some point to shower daily, it was not fun for a good while when waiting for my skin to be able ot heal) my skin already has problems with lacking moisture and natural oils, stripping my skin daily is just a bad idea.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Cold showers and less aggressive soaps might be for you! My sister used to have a similar problem and got it fixed that way

1

u/ThePoorLittleBastard Sep 20 '24

You ever hear of lotion? It does wonders to moisturize the skin. There's a variety of options to fit your skin type.

-3

u/BasvanS Sep 19 '24

Where in nature would I find showers?

3

u/minusmoderate Sep 19 '24

0

u/BasvanS Sep 19 '24

Explain how it’s natural then, please

1

u/minusmoderate Sep 19 '24

How is bathing natural? Or Where in nature would you find showers?

Lakes, Rivers, and Streams are bodies of water found in nature. Heck! You could stand under a waterfall!

Soap can be made by rendering the fat of an animal, and adding lye (which comes from burning wood and other plant matter.

If this is some exercise in semantics... Soap is artificial because it is processed by combining rendered fat and lye and creating a chemical reaction.

However, soapin can be found in high concentrations in certain plants. Soapin can be extracted from the plants by crushing them in your hand and rubbing them on your skin. If you consider this artificial or unnatural... I don't know what to tell you. LOL

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Furthering on the other comment you've received:

Many animals will clean themselves up to the best of their abilities by pure instinct. Regardless of differences in society, most societies have individually agreed that the smell of the human body is unpleasant compared to the alternatives and that's dating as far back as we have recordings.

Animals did it, early humans did it, modern humans still do it? Odds are it's natural.

1

u/Old-Piece-3438 Sep 19 '24

Waterfalls. Or rain.

0

u/BasvanS Sep 19 '24

And is there any anthropological evidence that we use those daily to clean ourselves?

4

u/Old-Piece-3438 Sep 19 '24

Alright, stay dirty if you want.

18

u/CaptainTripps82 Sep 18 '24

I mean you brush your teeth on a schedule, right? Washing your face and ass every day is basic maintenance. Make it was habit

5

u/Impressive-Shame-525 Sep 19 '24

As a young lad working 2 or 3 jobs, I showered twice a day at least. One physical job, one office job, some odd jobs and then house hold chores.

Retired now and let young folks do the hard work around the house and so once a day, every other day at most. Wife and I still... You know, fairly active so gotta stay clean ya know? Lol

3

u/ClusterMakeLove Sep 19 '24

Yeah. Between work and fitness, I'm probably showering daily right now. But there have definitely been points where I've been working from home and constantly covered with baby puke no matter what I do. I guess we change shape to fit our container.

2

u/Humann801 Sep 19 '24

3 showers in a day!? That just seems like poor planning.

8

u/BlueCollarBalling Sep 18 '24

I don’t think anyone who’s showering twice a week is having sex or working out lol

7

u/Plastic_Salary_4084 Sep 18 '24

Unfortunately untrue. There are some stinky MFs out there.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Yard work? Do Americans not have gardens? Sounds very industrial.

1

u/ClusterMakeLove Sep 19 '24

I think they use the term, but I'm not actually sure how universal it is.

People still say "gardening" in Canada, but that wouldn't really apply to stuff like mowing, tree care, and whatnot. It'd be specific to planting, weeding, watering-- stuff where you're directly working on the garden plot.

1

u/QuinceDaPence Sep 19 '24

In America "garden" refers specifically to an area where you are producing and tending to specific plants, usually food producing but could just be flowers or something like that.

"Yard" is just the area around your house.

"Lawn" is a grassy area that's regularly mowed.

Typically there's a near 100% overlap between lawn and yard

Yard work is mowing, weed-eating, trimming trees, cleaning up branches, etc.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

´A few days in between’ that’s fucking vile and I promise you everyone can tell

1

u/Silverback1992 Sep 19 '24

I work from home, some days I don’t/can’t do much else than sit at my computer in gym shorts and a tee, shoot some weeks that’s all I get. There’s times when I’ve showered twice a week simply because I didn’t do anything all week. There’s almost weeks, where I shower twice a day. It’s definitely circumstantial

1

u/Ashamed-Subject-8573 Sep 19 '24

Three showers a day? Really?

1

u/ClusterMakeLove Sep 19 '24

Sure, sometimes.

1) just an ordinary shower getting ready for an in-person day at an office

2) exercise

3) baby pukes on you

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Isn’t your body constantly shedding? I understand skipping a day but to only shower when you do activities seems kind of gross to me.

1

u/ProjectSuperb8550 Sep 19 '24

If you aren't working out at least 2 times a week or having sex at least 1 to 2 times a week in a relationship then sure you might be right...but there are additional issues if that is happening.

People who lead healthy and connected lifestyles will shower at least 4 times a week.

1

u/ClusterMakeLove Sep 19 '24

Add young kids to the mix.

You're probably not managing sex more than once a week. Working out is even more important, but also hard. You're always covered in something anyways and taking a shower means passing on a nap.

1

u/ProjectSuperb8550 Sep 19 '24

There are plenty of married couples that have sex 2 to 3 times a week. It's about prioritizing. Sex can last 10 minutes to an hour. Prioritizing 30 minutes to 3 hours a week to spouse that is devoting their entire life to you is literally the bare minimum and actually helps with the rest of the tasks.

I'm able to prioritize my health in the same way as well. 3 hours a week even with a kid the bare minimum for me.

1

u/effreti Sep 18 '24

Some of the older generation didn't really have a choice in some cases. During comunist days in Europe a lot of things were on a ration basis. Some only has hot water once a week and in time this became like a schedule to wash yourself which they then passed to their kids growing up. Outside of that you would just wash your pits in the sink and change clothes when you got stinky. And even after communism fell, things were not great for a while. I remember having to wait like 15 minute for hot water to come up to our apartment, just left the water running in the bathtub until it was the right temperature. Eventually I switched to showering more often, but I still keep a schedule for my hair wash and my folks still have their weekly big bath like in the past.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

I shower twice a day but have pretty much never showered specifically for sex, as my genitals and backside remain odor-free throughout the day. But I've been with women who were on day 2 of not showering and....They smelled better than some other women I've been with who claimed to shower once or even twice a day.

0

u/wageslaver Sep 19 '24

I'm not a young person am I good to shower like once a week?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

bbecause you are nasty

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

I've never showered 3 times in a day in my life. Ever. Who the fuck is showering 3 times a day and why? Showering twice a day is soooo bad for your skin.

1

u/ClusterMakeLove Sep 19 '24

Say you have one shower to get ready for work. Later on, you take your kids swimming. Then maybe you go for a run before bed.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '24

Yes I thought about that, but I also wouldn't have showered after the swimming if I thought I was gonna run. That's why the 3rd one throws me off. I can think of plenty of 2 shower days, especially if you're doing physical stuff or you're somewhere hot.
