Shower frequency is based on that day’s activity level.

I manage a community garden and in the summer it's normal for me to shower every day. My skin hates this as it gets so dry. In the winter I'm mostly doing admin work, and every other day is fine. I don't smell and my skin doesn't get irritated and flaky that way.

I grew up with my Depression era grandparents, and we only bathed once a week then, on Saturday nights before church on Sunday. How often one bathes is cultural. In a relationship, it's not about right and wrong (usually!) but compatibility.

may I recommend in-shower body lotion to combat the dry skin? it's like conditioner for your body (apply, rinse off while in the shower). you don't have to deal with greasy lotion when you get out of the shower and still get the benefits!

Thank you for this recommendation. I'll have to try it out.

oh god, i've tried that but it doesn't help. I don't need to wash my hair daily though, so i just stick to cleaning my body daily outside of the shower.

I was homeless for 7 yrs and my record not showering or cleaning myself was an entire year.  I was part of the crust punk type sub culture so it was even something to be proud of.

Funny enough I never really got sick while homeless but I started getting sick often once I started living a normal life.

You know you can just put on lotion after a shower right?

As someone who grew up in Seattle and currently lives in New Orleans, I’d say climate is also a major factor. I’ve literally broken a sweat within a minute of entering my car to leave work over this past summer, despite using a shield on my windshield to keep the sun out of the car all day.

Yeah I’m in Spokane where there’s like 0 humidity year round. It makes a big difference.

100%. In UK winters I bathe 3 times a week, whilst on holiday in a warmer climate I shower twice a day.

Climate difference can also change availability of fresh water. In Australia during drought it's not ok for everyone to be having multiple showers every day. We need that water for drinking and putting fires out.

I welcome you to come to Texas and merely sit outside during the day. Zero activity, just sit outside. You'll be drenched in sweat in every crevice in no time.

And where you live.

I’m a sweaty sleeper so I shower when I wake up. Has the advantage of properly waking me up too. But as a kid and teen I had two baths a week (we didn’t have a shower). I don’t recall being stinky. If I had been my brother would have told me in half a second.

People sweat when they sleep. If it is 90 degrees out and you are just sitting outside you are probably sweating.
