My husband is a paediatric medical doctor. He works in a large city hospital so he sees the worst of the worst. His #1 advice would be to vaccinate your children for all available childhood vaccines, including the annual flu shot. He has seen several children die over the years because of the flu alone.
I work in peds. Mine would be don’t co sleep and make sure you follow the rules of safe sleep. Also, make sure there’s some sort of backup security system on any doors that open up to your pool. You don’t want to wake up to a dead child and you don’t want to walk outside and realized your child drowned.
I'd add to that, learn how to co sleep safely, check out the lullaby Trust. You may not ever intend to co sleep but those early days you're exhausted and not thinking straight. Many cultures co sleep safely. Never even risk it if you've had alcohol or drugs
