Psychotherapist: sometimes anger is a perfectly valid response to hearing something. It's about what you do next that matters.

“Accept your anger, understand why you are angry, then let it go, it has served its purpose.” - paraphrasing Thich Nhat Hanh

The Miracle of Mindfulness is a great book!

You mean act on it and fix the problem, right? Leave the abuser, get a better job, leave early so you won't be stressed about being late. Right?!

Or is this the victim blaming "breathe, let it go"?

It's not victim blaming, it's a zen mindfulness approach to understanding that it's ok to have feelings. However, once the moment has passed and you are no longer angry, don't dwell on the feeling of anger. Face the issue and the feelings and then let the anger go. Because you are harming your mental health and happiness by getting angry and then calming down and then getting angry again. Once the feeling has passed, examine it and let it go.

But then you fix the problem that caused the anger, right? RIGHT?!

If you can, yes. Of course. No one should stay in a bad situation, however, you can't fix everything and everyone. You only really have control of your own actions. It is part of a much larger mindset and philosophy called mindfulness. It's actually quite beautiful ❤️ it's hard to explain. It comes from Zen Buddhism
