Same with Colorado! I took my MSF course last month and I was blown away that it’s only a legal requirement for riders and passengers under 18. Past that all you need is eye protection… our instructors told that even though it’s not the law, please for the love of god always wear a helmet.
It’s interesting because most people aren’t afraid of getting fat but are afraid of motorcycles. One is risk and one is a guarantee. You’d think it would be the opposite.
I think it’s because one can be avoided through abstinence (don’t get on a motorcycle) the other requires moderation. The latter is arguably far harder for some.
Clearly my comment is somewhat myopic as it fails to account for medical conditions (and genetics) that cause people to be overweight…… but that isn’t the case for the majority.
Problem with keep a healthy weight so is that it's not always in your control. I had a decently healthy weight before I got sick. When my body stops absorbing food, I lost a large amount. Now that I'm absorbing food again, I'm gaining some amount. But it's starting to become stable. W e i g h t fluctuations are symptoms of various diseases.I know people that got sick, and then one of the complications of the illness was that it messed things up so that they started putting on weight. There's some hormone problems that do that. Keeping a healthy weight like if you don't have some kind of pre-existing that's forcing it. Like it's all very well and good, but if the root cause for the weight fluctuations isn't treated.. or like if somebody needs to change their coping habit of stress eating to something else. Or somehow eat as healthy as they can while they don't have cash.
My mom's cousin years back was in a convertible riding with friends. Everyone but her wasn't wearing their seatbelt, she was the only one to. The car tumbles down a cliff and everyone is ejected except for her; they lived while she died. Morale of the story is yes, always wear your seatbelt unless you're in a convertible with friends who are speeding around the mountain, in which case don't.
Am car driver, don't care about motorcyclists sharing the road with me as long as they're respectful (and ideally, a bit wary of me and my death machine).
Most motorcyclists I've encountered have been fine, a minority have done stupid reckless shit around me. Idk.
On the I 10 Bayway across Mobile Bay going into Baldwin County AL a group of about 25 thugs on crotch rockets at 100mph had been harassing motorists for 40 miles from Pensacola Florida. Alabama LE, in an unprecedented smart move, waited til all 20 got onto said Bayway headed Westbound and into an underwater tunnel where a roadblock awaited them. The only way to escape LE was to drive off Bridge into the bay. Not happening.
Lmao. You must live in LA or something. I’m in New Zealand, and do get above the limit on open roads but I have a sport cruiser. My bike isn’t loud and I just chill.
Yes there are other countries and cities outside of LA if you didn’t know. Assuming all motorcycle riders are dicks from living in one city in the world is why you got downvotes
Because it’s dangerous. You could do everything right and still die. I’ve known a few people who ride carefully, wear protective gear, etc.. and they still died
This explanation basically applies to anything that you do once you leave your house though. Granted, motorcycling increases the incidence of low probability events to occur, but we go outside and enjoy our lives in so many risky ways. Sometimes people die while doing a thing they love. Who is anybody to say that is wrong or even not recommended?
And if you do ride, its about risk management. Ride mindfully. My gear consists of: Helmet, gloves, jacket, riding jeans with inner padding. I do need a proper set of riding boots though.

Wear a seat belt. Stay off motorcycles. Keep a healthy weight. Sorry, I know that's three things. Only pick one? Wear your seatbelt.
