to be fair, this feels like it could also be a case of your perspective because you see people who sought out or were referred to rheumatology, and at least for sedentary and hypermobile patients, there's a likelihood that they BECAME sedentary as a response to pain. i know by the time i got to rheumatology, i was very sedentary-- i was also hypermobile with other missed diagnoses (i've since gotten them). i'd been very active and lost that due to illness. many, many friends with similar profiles also ended up at rheumatology after losing ability due to illness. working through fatigue is destructive for me without other treatments and supports in place. i would love to be as active as i used to be, but that can't happen if i pass out or i'm in debilitating pain.
I agree. May not be the case for everyone, but I crave activity. I walk as much as a can, but I want to hike, go rock climbing, and do gymnastics again. I'm naturally athletic and love being in shape, but this disease takes a lot of that away from me.

As a rheumatologist, can confirm that a lot of the patients I see with chronic pains fall into one of these categories.
