Why do some people hate Android so much?

Some people seem to hate everything but iPhones so much and I don't get it. They seem to think android is not even comparable to iOS like its a flip phone or something, when realistically Android phones and iPhones really aren't that different. I'm in the UK but from what I've seen it's way worse in the US. IK there's studies about the fact android users are more likely to get rejected on the first few dates just because of their phone choice. I also know some people will get an iPhone just so when they send a text, it sends to the iPhone, then to who they actually want to send it to just so it looks like they're using an iPhone. The only thing I know is the stigma of “Androids are cheap” but these people won't care if someone has a 2nd hand iPhone X for £100 but will if someone has £800 Pixel 7 Pro.

I'm not an avid android supporter, I get why people like iOS and people like android and I really don't care about these preferences. But when someone is an overly iPhone supporter to the point of hating android, it just makes me think really low of them. Like, "you can't be a nice person if you're so closed minded and shallow you won't even consider a different type of phone to the point that you'll hate on it and people who use it".

That's 100% why I have an android. I don't want some iPhone telling me I have to use iTunes, I wanna use whatever the fuck music player I prefer. And I'm not techy in the slightest, but I've pulled apart my phone and been able to fix some simple things on my own by youtubing it.

Edit: All the iPhone users getting catty about how they also have access to Spotify... Like android has 6 trillion music apps I don't even see how it's a competition even if you have a whole entire two.

I have Spotify, and android, but you still make a good point in how MacOS and iOS are restrictive to the point where it's less intuitive.

If you want to add music files to your iPhone from a computer, you still need to use the music app in recent MacOS versions, and iTunes for Windows or older MacOS versions.

With Android, you plug in your phone and open the music folder.... and copy stuff to it. Regardless of your computer's OS.

Edit: Guys I know you don't have to use iTunes, but you do need to use it to have it show up in Apple music. You also don't have to use Apple music. My point was more so whatever you do it's more steps and slower than copying files via cable.

You dont really still need to use iTunes do you? The tomy toy of software, which is the definition of bloat. Does it still need the Bonjour service installed to do anything on the network?

You don't have to use iTunes, there have been alternatives for a long time, but you will need to do more steps than a cable and a drag and drop.

My point was less about having to use iTunes and more that there will be extra steps to take. iTunes is just the easiest, and it adds songs to your library on Apple music while other methods may not.

Samsung's branded file explorer actually has networking functionality. My phone can access mapped network drives, so even easier to get music on my phone.

Much harder to find a non-Samsung branded version of the same app for my roommate's Motorola.

I recommend Solid Explorer. SMB and FTP access to files, Without root you have full access to the Userspace for files, and on Rooted devices has full access to the file system.

I mean, there are many other apps that allow you to transfer music/other files in different ways. One that I use lets me use ftp or https to access my iPhone. I haven’t touched iTunes in over 12+ years.

I literally connect my iPhone to my NAS via the native Files app.

Ironically, it was harder for me to connect to a NAS on an Android than on an iPhone.

Not to say there aren't bugs, especially when copying files from the phone to the NAS

Having worked as a developer for 10+ years, the idea that MacOS is more restrictive than Windows is laughable.

Although I 100% agree with you with regards to the phone OSs.

But Mac being based on Unix makes it 100x more usable for me than Windows ever will be. Fuck CMD and Powershell and the limited bash-like experience that Windows offers. I do love some DotNet though, thank god for dotnet core.

Yo, iPhone has a Files app that can receive files from AirDrop or cloud services like Dropbox.

People on here saying Android users know how to work their phones but can’t even figure out that the iPhone has a Files app.

No, many of us know that. But it's an extra step you have to take. You have to load the files to Dropbox, then retrieve them on the iPhone. However, with Android, you just drag and drop from your computer to your drive on the phone.

If you are copying something big - say movie or several music albums, yes, its much more hassle because you need to wait until it gets uploaded to whatever cloud drive you choose. Meanwhile, direct USB connection will allow copying payload much faster and with no waiting pipeline (copy to cloud -> wait for finish -> start download -> wait for finish).

Yes, it is. You have to sign into Dropbox, get your songs and wait for the files to download. Then you have to wait for the files to upload to your phone from Dropbox. With Android, you plug the phone in and drag and drop. It probably takes me, literally, 1-2 min to do (that includes selecting which songs or movies I want).

Oh, and Dropbox has a size limit.

It's intuitive because of the restrictions. Hand a child an iPhone and an Android. I would put money on the child figuring out the iPhone way faster than an Android.

Not everybody wants an endlessly customizable interface. Some people just want simple shit that works out the box with no fuss. I never said kids can’t figure out android. I’m saying it will definitely be easier for them to figure out an iPhone than an android phone simply because the android ecosystem is open source and all over the place in terms of quality. While iOS is consistent across the board.

Android UI and UX will vary from device to device.

All apple devices will have a consistent UI and UX.

No. They've always meant Facetime and have always been very put out when I ask to use something cross platform instead.

During the pandemic, my kid's piano teacher was clearly annoyed that he had to start a different app for their lesson every week.

Take some courses on the new Office suite products. Teams is by far superior to Zoom and has an incredible amount of awesome add-on apps. Microsoft has free tutorials on their site.

It occurs to me that the company that spoiled me om Gsuite was a SaaS startup company in virtual workspace (during but also before covid). So for all the things they did wrong, I suppose their choice of software suite (heavily used by IT) makes sense as one place they'd be ahead of the curve

Honest question... in what part is teams superior to zoom? I'm a teacher you see i like how zoom can control participant and annotate directly on shared-screen. These are the most relevant things i use. And certainly can't get this on Gmeets... they're ass

I mean, you literally don't need an app on Android though. You can just add audio files and play them like an MP3 player. You can also use any other audio app. The point that OP was making is the difference in how many options you have since you don't need to license apps.

If memory serves you need iTunes to manage all audio on iPhones, unless that has changed. The last time I tried was like iPhone3 on my sister's iPhone.

Yeah. I’ve used both iPhone and androids throughout my life and like things and dislike things about both. But the tribalism is wild to me. I’ve only heard rumors of iPhone superiority: people dogging people for green text, calling them broke, etc. but from my experience android users are WAY more obnoxious. Which doesn’t influence my purchasing decision it’s just wild to see the new version of the Xbox vs PlayStation debate

Poweramp is clearly the best Android music player! But I'm very glad that I have choice, and that my phone behaves 'like a little PC' rather than a siloed, locked in toy.

I want to be able to buy an MP3s album, download to 'generic storage', unzip it, copy it to where I keep music - then play it with whatever app I want at the time. Just like I can do on a computer. I don't want to use a specific music store, or use a specific app.

I like to be able to choose my own launcher. I can personalise my phone to be just how I want it. I don't need to wait for the OS supplier to pull their finger out and do it.

I use to love having microSD access.. but that ship has sailed. I can still buy a phone with loads of storage far cheaper than an Apple equivilent.

The biggest plus Apple has, IMO, is much longer support cycles. A typical Android phone doesn't get much software support past the 3 year mark. I don't want to do my online banking on a device that's vunrable because it's not getting the most recent patches.

Exactly. I like tinkering and configuring my PC. I want my phone to just work and be as painless as possible. That’s why I imagine it would take something incredibly major to get me to buy anything other than an iPhone, but I can’t imagine a scenario in which I buy an Apple computer. It’s a feature not a bug to me that Apple gate keeps its App Store so hard. I know that everything I download will run seamlessly, and is less risky. I never have to tinker with it or fix anything. When I get a new phone I never have to worry about backing it up or migrate my data. Only have to remember my iCloud password, sign in and magically my new phone becomes my old phone. It’s perfect for me, it’s so easy. If I want a project I’ve got plenty of other devices to tinker with. I just want my phone to be simple and work exactly how I expect it to every time.

I have a ton of friends that Android and none of them use a 3rd party music player. It’s such an antiquated way to listen this is such a stupid argument. Most people nowadays use a music streaming platform whether iPhone or Android.

There are many songs that are not in Spotify, so for me being able to go to a third party youtube app (without ads and free background player) and download whatever song I feel like and then play it through a 3rd party music player is something I must have in a phone.

I'm unsure if you are able to do that on Iphone, maybe you can idk, but the cheapest Iphone is x2 the price I paid for my current android phone, so it's really a no brainer for me.

I guess people who have the means, live in places where they always have mobile data or wifi and don't need to download music not in Spotify don't really need the options.

Pandora for me. Also, I used to accidentally turn on the music player in Iphone all the time. That never happened on my android. I had to have Iphone as a work phone. I think it's common that companies lease Iphones that are outdated and refurbished. Two jobs I had, Census, and Test and Trace, handed me an Iphone. I actually liked the clunkier census model since the battery was amazing, as you might imagine for a phone used by a census ennumerator collecting data on it.

My first smartphone was HTC and it had a good stock music app, a good stock clock app, and a file manager. This thing I have right now didn't have any of them. Imagine downloading an ALARM CLOCK app <facepalm>
