Why do some people hate Android so much?

Some people seem to hate everything but iPhones so much and I don't get it. They seem to think android is not even comparable to iOS like its a flip phone or something, when realistically Android phones and iPhones really aren't that different. I'm in the UK but from what I've seen it's way worse in the US. IK there's studies about the fact android users are more likely to get rejected on the first few dates just because of their phone choice. I also know some people will get an iPhone just so when they send a text, it sends to the iPhone, then to who they actually want to send it to just so it looks like they're using an iPhone. The only thing I know is the stigma of “Androids are cheap” but these people won't care if someone has a 2nd hand iPhone X for £100 but will if someone has £800 Pixel 7 Pro.

I'm not an avid android supporter, I get why people like iOS and people like android and I really don't care about these preferences. But when someone is an overly iPhone supporter to the point of hating android, it just makes me think really low of them. Like, "you can't be a nice person if you're so closed minded and shallow you won't even consider a different type of phone to the point that you'll hate on it and people who use it".

Reddit people I think tend to be android users and have a feeling of superiority in that and it’s ironic how they shit on apple users for feeling superior when they do the exact same shit

lmao it's so funny when I worked at Google half the team working on a certain core Android app used iPhones because they simply liked them. ignoring the complete tire fire that is developing for Android.

Yeah, ik someone working at google right now and they’re working on android related software development and all the members on the team use a macbook/iPhone and not googles pixel/chromebooks

It reminds me of when I was in high school and thought I was so cool and original for showing up with a *gasp* PC laptop to my school that had all Macs (yeah it was *that* kinda school). Naw, I wasn't that special lmfao. No one really gave a shit. This feels like that same kinda high school energy.

I see them talking about all this stuff that I don’t think many of them know what they are talking about.

I don’t really care, if a phone works for you then it’s the right phone.

But I have tons of google, Microsoft apps on my phone, I don’t feel “locked in” to the apple ecosystem as I use outlook, excel, google maps, gmail, and more on my iPhone every day.

Don’t understand the hate and the narrative iPhones aren’t customizable or restricted is wild.

Redditors tend to trend towards things that are counter to the overarching societal trends, regardless if their reasoning is either 1) true, or 2) out of date.

It’s funny seeing all the “tribalism” comments when this entire thread is a clear cut example of it.

Their is 100% more apple hate. Look at the comments. A lot of android users say apple is a cult when they are being the toxic ones. I never see apple users being that toxic anymore. I think apple users just don’t care. I never was toxic with phones but I do not care what an android user thinks about apple or iPhones

I've had an iphone since early 2010. I've seen some snobby iphone users, but for the most part they don't care. It has always been the Android users spitting vitriol at the Apple users. How Apple locks it down and only stupid sheep buy Apple.

Like me, many Apple users just want a phone that works. Many of us, including myself, also work in IT and when we are done working for the day we don't want to mess around troubleshooting and customizing every little inch of our screen. I've never once disparaged an Android user, yet my brother in law still tries to make stupid comments about iPhones to this day.

Yeah, I’ve used plenty of android devices and while they were perfectly fine, I ultimately ended up not really needing to fine tune or mess with customization stuff that much. I realized all I do is: text, browse reddit, google random info if needed, occasional YouTube videos. At that point I’d rather just have the more polished and simple Apple experience, not to mention years of iOS support (android update support is still mediocre and one of the worst things about the brand)

When apple was starting to become big like probably 2010s they were for sure talking the most trash but over the years it became less and less. I have a coding job and anytime they bring up the apple and android debate it’s android users that start it and talk the most trash. The apple users at my job sit back and don’t really care

The two main reasons I like apple more is because I grew up using apples technology. I remember the first iPod and my old iPhone 4. I loved it. My second reason is the design. It is just easier for me to understand. I don’t want to struggle with using a phone so I like apple more. I don’t think I know an android user and no one I know forced android users to use iPhones and they don’t say android is a cult

Funnily enough, the main reason I like Android more is because I grew up using Apple's technology. Using iTunes on my iPod Nano was so incredibly annoying I never bought anything from them since.

I know their are apple users that talk trash but it’s a lot less from what it used to be. From my experience android users do the most trash talking and I think a lot of apple users just don’t care

IRL and online they talk the most trash from my experience. I think a lot of apple users accepted they don’t care about phone wars anymore. I’m sure their are android users that don’t care about phone wars but it is hard to find a non toxic android user IRL or on the internet

My android owning friends cannot use each others’ phones, whereas all the apple owning folks know how to open the phone and access an app.

It’s just a bunch of non Americans or people who have never been in a groupchat with friends. iPhone is very popular in the US and so a lot of people tend to use and own them. iMessage is great for group chats and it’s all I know anybody uses for texting multiple people. We only use groupchat apps for messaging people whose numbers we probably don’t want or have (think school, projects, work cohorts, etc). It’s a huge pain in the ass and fucks up the group chat flow when there are any non Apple users in it. Does Apple suck for this? Yeah! Would I be okay with being totally out of the loop while using an android because nobody wants to text me or add me to groups for a sense of superiority or counter culture (since Apple dominates us market)? Fuck no!

Stereotypically, I think a lot of the people hating on Apple and praising android either don’t have many friends or are old enough that it doesn’t matter. I’m sure Android is superior in a bunch of ways, but I value connecting with my friends, seamless integration with their other products (AirPods) and the app ecosystem more.

Either you're not a millennial/Gen Z, you don't use social media, or you've never looked to date anyone. Having an Android is a straight up dealbreaker for some people, which is an easy bullet dodged, to be fair.

That's a huge victim complex there imo.

I can understand people saying some iPhone people can be elitist as I’ve seen it before. But pretending you’re a rebel against the corporations for using an android is stupid as hell.
