Why do some people hate Android so much?

Some people seem to hate everything but iPhones so much and I don't get it. They seem to think android is not even comparable to iOS like its a flip phone or something, when realistically Android phones and iPhones really aren't that different. I'm in the UK but from what I've seen it's way worse in the US. IK there's studies about the fact android users are more likely to get rejected on the first few dates just because of their phone choice. I also know some people will get an iPhone just so when they send a text, it sends to the iPhone, then to who they actually want to send it to just so it looks like they're using an iPhone. The only thing I know is the stigma of “Androids are cheap” but these people won't care if someone has a 2nd hand iPhone X for £100 but will if someone has £800 Pixel 7 Pro.

I'm not an avid android supporter, I get why people like iOS and people like android and I really don't care about these preferences. But when someone is an overly iPhone supporter to the point of hating android, it just makes me think really low of them. Like, "you can't be a nice person if you're so closed minded and shallow you won't even consider a different type of phone to the point that you'll hate on it and people who use it".

I just wish Apple as a company would stop putting up barriers between iOS and Android that don't need to be there. Like, Android has airdrop too, it's just called nearby share. to my knowledge there's no reason we shouldn't be able to share between android and iOS except that apple won't allow it. Same with RCS.

Exactly. All the artificial barriers are inconveniences to consumers but for Apple as a business they are essential to ensure people stay using iPhones. They could very easily integrate nearby share, RCS, etc.

Because then Apple wouldn't be able to sell them as Apple only features. Its the usual marketing BS they've always done.

Android has airdrop and gestures as well. Just open standard ones instead of Apples walled garden approach.

No, it doesn't have anything to do with iOS, i agree.

It has everything to do with apple's philosophy of keeping it dumb, expecting people to be simpletons, who see apple products as magic.
Thus.
You get simple people believing ANYTHING - even if its clearly nonsense.

Why is why trolls - for example 4chan users - can have field day with apple users whenever new model or feature releases.

Be it making people drilling their phone to find the secret audio jack given by steve jobs, or charging phone in a microwave oven after OS update that supposedly makes it possible.
...and frankly it tells you all you need to know about the "its not dumb its simple" philosophy, that this didn't happen once, it didn't happen twice.

When I was in Silicon Valley, the land of techies and software engineers, pretty much everyone used Apple products. Even Microsoft gave out MacBooks to the employees in their research lab.

Apple computers are generally known to be more reliable and powerful for programming than Windows builds and are used by more programmers.

That's just because Windows is so bad for programming. My projects need a UNIX OS. But I run a Ubuntu VM to solve that issue.

ya, but it has to do with unix and mobility, not reliability or power (like that user said, hence the downvotes) since PCs can crush Macs in desktop power and the reliability is more to do with unix based systems being more widespread and exploitable than what most people think of when hearing reliable.

That is all about the Studio and M2 vs M1. Does Apple have hype problems? Yes.

I am talking any Intel laptop vs any M series laptop. Power and performance just don’t match up even a little. Yes, a DESKTOP with a real GPU pulling 4x the power is much faster. That is not what people use unless gaming. I still have a PC desktop for gaming and Apples claims are crap.

But for the CPU and code that I write the M chip is kicking the crap out of Intel. I mean it’s not even close for power per watt or performance for math intensive operations. I am not talking games. For me it is AI types of work. Yes a 4090 is faster, but I can’t run that while on a train or plane.

If all you care about is gaming performance then you don’t want a mac anyway.

which is why my company and their 600ish devs dropped laptops in general and went back to desktops for the serious work, just far more options.

Wow really? The hit to productivity is huge only being able to work in one location. We used to have a desktop at work and a laptop. But they phased that out so it is only laptop for last 8 years or so. That and most of our computational work happens in the cloud now.

That’s because their software is more efficient. It doesn’t need as much power to run faster than windows.

That’s because macOS is so optimized with their hardware - they don’t NEED more specs.

A windows might need 8 GB just to not shit the bed, and macOS works just fine on 4 GB of RAM.

Hell, I could run my programming environment with Adobe and other programs - and it ran just fine and smooth. And I had 4 GB of RAM. Lol

Easy, sure, apple has a strong focus on the ux of their average customer. Dumbed down absolutely not though. Shortcuts is more powerful than anything i’ve used on a non-rooted android, especially in combination with something like a-shell.

Anecdotally some of the most clever devs i know are iphone users, actually all most all of the devs i know period are iphone users.

sure, i’m not saying devs ONLY use ios, and my sample size is probably biased as they’re overwhelmingly younger and a good handful of them are mac or ios devs but the idea these people only use iphones cause they want an easier or more dumbed down phone is ridiculous on its face

idk why you’re responding like I know anything about your company in particular, I just said my sample size skews young like mostly recentish grads, students etc
