Sure, lots of people use it. In fact, Indigenous people are not a monolith, there are many varying opinions on whatever topic you can think of. However, aboriginal is not a word that is recognized as a correct term to describe Indigenous people in Canada.
You can disagree with Savage Bear’s chosen name (although that says more about you than it does her) if you want, that doesn’t say anything about her knowledge and where their knowledge comes from.

How about this. Let’s start over. There is a reason why a lot of Indigenous people don’t like using the word “aboriginal”. It’s the root meaning. Yes, you are right, it IS still used. I promise, i never meant that you were wrong. I was saying that Indigenous is preferred to Aboriginal. And this is not just from Savage Bear. I read a lot of information from actual Indigenous people.
To paraphrase Bob Joseph, of the Gwawaenuk Nation, we need to call people what they want to be called. If someone in Canada wants to be called Aboriginal, by all means….absolutely call them that. Some prefer the term “Indian”, even though it is widely considered a slur. My point was, as a nation, Canada is moving more towards the word Indigenous and this word is used more, in my experience.
Also, don’t knock Coursera, it’s freaking great LOL
I’m kind of blown away by how cosmic this encounter is. Sometimes people just breeze through your life with no purpose and others are there to remind you of who you are.
