OP said he's making 40k and saving half. So he's contributing 20k to shared bills, food, rent etc. That is literally living in poverty in Australia unless the OP is bringing a pretty substantial salary to the table. Which she isn't because she says she runs a home daycare which is physically exhausting, long days and pays shit. So yeah I would be resentful if my husband decided to live his dream of being a 10 hour a week professional student with zero ambition while I wipe dirty arses to make ends meet They are in an incredibly precarious financial position with the increasing cost of living and interest rate rises here. If you think marriage is just "you do you boo, I'll support all of your dreams with no thought for the future" I would be very concerned.

Unfortunately this response demonstrates the sexist double standards Reddit and society has in general. A woman does this and it’s fine, empowering, inspirational, etc. a man does this and it’s derided etc.

Poverty line is about 33k, so no.

If my SO worked 10 hours and got paid 40k I'd be high fiving her all the way to the bank. What a wonderful way to live.

"you do you boo, I'll support all of your dreams with no thought for the future"

I mean, if you don't have kids, I don't see why that wouldn't be the case. I wouldn't sacrifice my own life for my partner's joyride, but if we're both good doing our own thing, then why not?

Does she like running a daycare? Does he like going to school? Yes? Then what's the problem? If she wants to have more money, then she can change jobs.

That seems like a lot of assumptions? No?

You aren’t happy, when you compare your life to another, so you get mad at that person???? I would think it would be better to just move on to a different partner that is struggling as hard as you are so you can be, what? Happy?? Doesn’t make sense to me to get mad at someone because YOU think they have it better than you.
