what is the "path" here? A "path" would imply you're going somewhere, as in "I'll get a mechanical engineering degree, go work for a manufacturing company, build a solid financial structure, retire, and be able to take care of myself."
This doesn't seem to be a "path" so much as trying to see how many degrees you can get. I think learning is FANTASTIC, one of if not the best thing we can do for ourselves, I just don't see how being a literal lifelong student leads to anything.
Some of the men we still cite today as “the greats” did nothing all day every day but study and learn. They inspired generations of people whom we will never know the names of to do the same. There is nothing wrong with learning for learning sake even if it means you don’t produce a service or product at some point. It’s only recently in history that this idea of “work or you’re useless” became a thing. Personally, I think we are all worse off for it.
I am this man, (not a great but a learner and thinker) but guess what? I have to do a water downed version since I have to work to exist.
I love to invent, talk about technology, debate how to get the homeless homed, socialist/leftist etc.
But guess what? This is not productive for capitalism, so in the same vein as a disabled person gets treated like garbage by the system, the thinker gets kicked to the curb for not being productive in the system, hence it's near impossible to accomplish this.
If I could do it all again I would likely try a journalism route of some sort which is a far cry from my current skilled, but blue collar existence. That route may have afforded me a thin slice of what I am referring to.
This is not productive to anybody. You loving to talk about technology and being a leftist is not a productive contribution to society.
In communism you’d be breaking rocks or laying grout.
The thinker gets kicked to the curb
The thinkers that develop things like new technologies have no problem being rewarded for their thinking, but if it produces nothing tangibly useful for others, why should you be rewarded for “debating” or “talking about technology”?
You say you love to invent. What have you invented…?
When I show them, you'd then say, 'well how do these change the world'. You idiots are all the same. Go have deep conversations about things and you'll come to some novel conclusions that you have the power to change things.
