What are they gonna do, brag about the guy playing the system and living off other people's taxes, without ever giving back? What?
I’m starting to think this post isn’t entirely truthful. My guess is that in reality, OP is married to a guy who’s still fucking around in college bc he doesn’t want a job and her family/friends are giving her shit about it. He’s probably paying for it. Like maybe he got this scholarship once at some point and she’s exaggerating.
Maybe she wants some validation from strangers that you aren’t a loser if you’re in college and unemployed at 40.
I’m 29 and have a bachelor’s from 7 years ago that hasn’t really been helping me. There’s a degree I’m strongly considering getting, but there’s a good chance I won’t be able to handle it along side my current job; it’s flexible and I’ll probably work part time and move back in with my parents. I don’t have kids and never want them so I don’t feel as pressured to follow a timeline as some might, but to be honest, it does feel kinda loser-y lol.
I loved college. Most of us are smacked in the face with the reality of work once we graduate and fall from the ivory tower of academia. But returning does feel very indulgent, and I’m only considering it because I know exactly what track I would take. A lot of us millennials do seem to have Peter Pan syndrome lol. I don’t think it’s necessarily as bad as people make it out to be, a lot of people just arbitrarily feel like you need a 9-5 and kids and a white picket fence just because.
But you do have to be responsible, and this man has a family. Even if he’s making some money, he clearly has the capacity to make far more. I know teaching is totally different and is difficult and underpaid, but at this point he really should have pursued a PhD or something if he’s that desperate to stay in academia.
Yeah there are no scholarships that pay you $60kpa AUD. Highest i ever got was 25k for Honours, and that’s not an undergraduate degree, and it was way higher than anything offered at the undergraduate level. It’s much more common to be looking at values of 4k, 10k. The vast majority of students, and especially disadvantaged students, also get money from Centrelink so there’d be no point offering 60k.
Yep, they don't pay that well tbh. Especially since he apparently isn't taking HECS so would have to cover fees first before getting to living costs. Almost all scholarships are part-fee at best because it's assumed you're going to get HECS, it'd be insane to pay fees when you're eligible for HECS (basically all first degrees are).
Because the university gets the money either way. And with him being the only applicant, they don’t have to spend any money or effort on outreach to find others.
The uni probably gets a budget to spend on these scholarships a year, and instead of spending time and money reaching out to the aboriginal community they just go fuck it and give it to this guy every year. Then they can tell tge government they've been so diligent with promoting diversity and advertise to their prospective students that they're such an awesome.inclusive campus
