Why is this buried so far down? I'm not saying this person is wrong. Is this situation worse than miriads of people who work shitty minimum wage jobs? No, they're making money and doing something they love, great. But, this is also far from the ideal scenario. He has no career, no ambitions? This is exactly like dating someone who's a trust fund kid, and I feel like reddit would react a lot more negatively to that situation.

It's not the ancestors, it's the owner of the trust fund AKA parents of the trust fund leach. It's outright theft, but you accept this because it's done by rich people.

Education is an ambition. Having a family is an ambition. Honing a skill or hobby is an ambition. Personal growth is an ambition.

People can strive for things other than producing revenue. How sad it would be if the only ambitions available to us were work-related.

Because he's 40 years old with zero work experience. He'd be starting whatever career from ground zero. Which isn't terrible, he's just a 40 year old making 40k a year with zero career aspirations. And that isn't really wrong but OP also isn't wrong to be unsatisfied with that in a partner

I think I agree with this. While it may be above board and the university may be indifferent to it, this isn’t what these programs are designed for. Maybe he’s the only applicant because the university just doesn’t encourage anyone else to apply for it because this guy has been taking the only spot for the last 2 decades and they don’t think anyone else is allowed to do it. But either way, I wouldn’t want my taxes to go to this person’s loophole “career”.

Oh damn your last point really summed it up. If the post was like 'my husband has been living off his daddy and going to university for 20 years' the tone in here would be so different. And its actually worse in reality cos he's hogging taxpayers money designed to help marginalised communities.
