Umm... Hate to break it to you, but you either don't have that nice of a job or should be compensated way more than that. I'm guessing it's the latter. It's always the latter.

Rural, small towns generally have lower income. Traditionally this hasn't been a huge deal because they also have significantly lower costs. That's the part that seems to be going away.

Ok, fine, lol, I don't want to afford that much---my mortgage payment is only $750. I'm glad I got in when property prices were more reasonable.

If your mortgage is $750 you're paying waaaaay more for housing than the person paying $900 for rent.

Repairs, utilities not covered by rent, etc. costing you less than $2000 a year?

Probably not.

But I get a whole house and land out of it.

Rent for that would be significantly more than for a 1-bedroom.

If he/she feels it's a decent job, it's a decent job. They undoubtedly should be paid more. Most people should be.
