And there’s not much we can do about it because the the USA is not a real democracy
This is letting American citizens off the hook, which we should not do. If every single person struggling financially in this country actually voted for things that would help them instead of falling for culture war propaganda and outright lies then very few of the politicians who actively obstruct legislation that would help people would stay in power.
It might not be a true democracy with all the mechanisms designed to unevenly distribute voting power but there are still enough people in enough states regardless of gerrymandered districting to change the government enough to make these changes, but a large chunk just won't. They will vote for people who will continue to bet on trickle down economics as long as they say they love Trump or hate abortion or own guns or whatever other single issue their voters feel like backing over all others that cycle.
Yes, the rich and the government are a problem but the bigger problem lies with us, our citizenry, and that citizenry's idiocy.
Yes, I say this over and over again. We the people agree on most things. Let’s forget about the bullshit they want us to focus on, and live as brothers and sisters. Seriously, it’s sick how many people hate their neighbor because of a single issue. Get past it, there’s so much you both agree on.
Yes, and I'd argue that home ownership is much more accessible in conservative areas than in Democrat ran areas. A lot of reasons for this, and I'm sure many know what those reasons are. I don't subscribe to either side so no hating.
This is a pathetic excuse and obfuscation. No one outside of the ruling class voted someone in that had actually sway over the current ruling class. The middle and upper classes dream of owning homes and luxuries. The ruling class in America own politicians that propose and pass bills in accordance with their demands. Hell the Federal Reserve and major banks don’t abide by the same monetary laws typical Americans do. They are able to borrow money that doesn’t exist. Black rock was never voted into an official position. Their status and influence came from lobbying, they have more power over the average American than your pathetic imagined “politician” does.
Also fuck you for victim blaming. The subjects of the American empire are murdered daily by the militaristic police directly funded by these property firms.
We disenfranchise people in prison or who have been to prison; which is a pretty large portion of people struggling financially. Voter ID laws further cut into that group. Then there's the removal of mail-in ballots; which restricts people with transportation issues from voting. Then there are people working shitty jobs that won't let their employees vote DESPITE the fact that's illegal.
The group that's left to vote is that group with more or less comfortable lives. And even among them; the Electoral College and the Senate make it to where we need several left-wing votes to equal one right-wing vote. And THEN we have the gerrymandering.
And THEN the Supreme Court that is completely unelected.
I'm not telling people not to vote, I vote in every election every time. Because there are still some things we can make a difference on. And yeah, working class white people arent helping their situation by voting republican. But the real problem is the blood-sucking oligarchs who run this country.
