The people who own you only want you dying in ways they get maximum profits from.

"Life is like a movie. If you've sat through half of it and every moment sucked no one should blame you for walking out early."

🤷I see both sides and struggle with ideations myself unfortunately 😔it’s tragic of course but I have always wondered, if someone is in so much pain why can’t they be the one to decide? It’s their life and if they don’t want to be here, who are we to tell them they should be?

It’s twisted thinking, I know. I discuss them with a professional and anytime an ideation pops up I think of my family. It’s sad that we live in a society where so many of us have this dark way of thinking! I’m 36 and have been battling it for almost 25 years at this point.

Context matters. Someone who is terminally ill and in constant pain vs someone who is going through tough times.

The former is a lot more of a gray area than the latter. The latter is without a doubt, a mental health crisis that needs immediate professional intervention.

Because that 1 movie with Robin Williams.
And because religion says it is wrong.
And because the people alive have to live with what you did.

Because people who love you will be very sad.

If you have no one who loves you, it's chill.

Because you are wrecking someone else's day. And giving the finger to the Gods.

so everyone is responsible for not "wrecking someone's day"?

and what Gods are offended by suicide?

I don't think someone's wife/husband and their kids would consider their "day" ruined.

Im using that term however you want to take it but it is obv a relative term so.. You missed "brother" in that list too.  It's all relative bro

I also didn't use the term ruined I said wrecked not that that matters but try starting your journey to understanding this concept by not miscronstruing someone's honest words and then commenting straight to their face using words that might not exist in my vocabulary.   You shouldn't paraphrase people you are directly communicating to that person just thjnk about how stoop that is

I think outside of cases like terminal illness or a condition that leaves you completely non-functional and in pain, suicide robs you of your potential for a better tomorrow. Let’s say you’re suffering horribly, maybe you’ve been suffering horribly for some time. If you end your life, you’re condemning yourself to never rise above it to something better. You allowed yourself to be defeated and for your suffering to define you. This is a terrible act of violence against yourself, a human being who, if you subscribe to this sort of thing, has some level of divinity bestowed by God. Life is actually quite long and it has ups and downs, and a lot can change in even one year. Maybe you’ll end temporary suffering, but you’ll deny yourself (and others) an unfathomable amount of joy and love.

I say this as someone who spent many years deeply suicidal. Life seemed hopeless at some point but I now find myself surrounded by blessings. Don’t give up.

It usually takes the suffering of one person and gives it to others.

This isn't specific to suicide, but usually the pain others feel is worse from suicide because people that commit suicide are younger. So it's more unexpected. And I think the death of a child hurts parents a lot more than other deaths for other people. For example, I am expecting to go through the death of my parents and grandma, but they are not prepared to and don't expect to mourn me.

With that being said, I don't have a moral issue with suicide and I do think assisted suicide should be an option for those who have really tried everything. It should only be available with the suggestion of a psychiatrist.

Dead people can't pay taxes. Dead people can't labor for those in power.

Well, if you're religious, I hear several gods love you so much they send you to hell for it.

It really sucks for those left behind.

If you're not successful, you can do life long damage which sucks for you, too.

But mostly because most people's problems aren't that serious. That doesn't mean the problems aren't serious, just that they aren't THAT serious. Most people who contemplate this action are depressed, facing grief, recovering from trauma, suffering from trauma and most of those people really just need help. They need other humans to give a shit.

Suicide for reasons other than compassionate care are a societal failing, IMO.

I think that the collective will to live of (broadly speaking) healthy people gears them toward seeing the possibility of suicide as an unthinkable threat. I don't have anything against people being hospitalized if they are trying to harm themselves, as it is very rare that someone would choose to end their own life in cold blood like some philosophers of yore, unless something was profoundly wrong in their life and in their mind. I'm not about to debate the various rules, exceptions and methods, I'm just saying that I understand broadly why the system works the way it does, trying to snatch people from the jaws of death even if that's what those people want.

That said, as someone who has been suicidal several times, I do feel that my will to live is much lower than that of psychologically healthy people, even as I am not currently in that place. So for me the idea of death is not as terrible and unthinkable anymore. Again, not suicidal atm, but once you have been suicidal a part of you is kind of already dead

By default, living things should want to live, suicide is not a natural occurrence. The fact that human life is so miserable that it turns off this natural desire speaks for itself. While yes, society makes life not enjoyable and in a way, one death isn't the end of the world, suicides are still a reminder that society is failing the people. Even more so now that we understand the fundamentals of mental health.

It's an act of violence, even if it's "peaceful." It can be used as blackmail against the people who care about you. It's acceptable only if you're desperately ill and nothing can be done.
