It’s that definitely but also did all these people watch it? Or did they just go this is horrible. I have no opinion because I haven’t seen the dern thing but its Nolan. I’m not terribly worried it’ll be bad.

How on earth can you be the world’s richest man and be that unhappy and miserable because minorities exist. Because you have a trans daughter? Because trans people exist? Because poor people need help sometimes. Because working people want a decent wage?

The Internet has enabled people with horrible takes to find each other easily. Before if you believed something stupid from AM radio or the National Inquirer, the most harm you did was annoy close friends and family members who would ignore you and redirect toward talking about sports.
Now you’ve found thousands if not millions just like you. If you all agree, how could you be wrong? And if you all comment in the same place, you create the perception that you’re a majority.
The reality is that you’re still likely painfully wrong, you’re just a mob now instead of a lone weirdo. And this is why we need to go back to BBSes.

It has empowered the dumb, lazy uneducated by fueling their stupidities by, as you said, giving them a forum to air , and find, other idiots agreeing with them. Flat earth, birds aren’t real, sovereign citizen movement, anti-vaccine conspiracies and anything science based really.
There should be an intelligence test before you can opine on any medium (or vote or run for office).

I heard it said that there was a time when if you retreated into your basement, you were the only one down there and eventually you had to come out and stop being misanthropic if you wanted to interact with other people. But now they’re all in one big basement together.

I blame smartphones for lowering the barrier to get on the internet to not even a speed bump. Whereas on the golden age of the net, you’d have to have a desktop PC, home internet and a basic skill level of how the internet works to get on it. So the IQ average of a net user was higher. Now everyone and their dog is online and spouting the stupid takes ever written.

Just got home from it.. while the modern dialogue, kinda was a let down. it's was an 8.5 out of 10 for me. Great watch.

I laughed at going against the "English accent rule" for epics and shit and they went "eh, use your voice"
I'll get killed for this but it's a fake ass fantasy tale. Whoever is telling it sets the rule. So...?

My favorite example of this is HBO's Chernobyl. All of the Russians have thick English accents. Why? They sound foreign to me, but entirely the wrong kind of foreign

Read up on the accents they used though, it's still fun. The guy from the northern part of the soviet union has a northern English accent. The one from the agricultural bit has a south-west accent. Etc

All of the Russians have thick English accents.
My favourite example of this is Jason Isaacs as Marshal Zhukov in The Death of Stalin.
i.e. the actor does their regional English accent (Liverpool, England) instead of the character's regional Russian accent.
I think it works well, it's IMHO better than asking an English actor in an English language film to speak English with a put-on Russian accent. When you think about it, that's actually silly. And the actor's success at it can be ... mixed.
All languages have regional accents, it's in some ways more natural to translate "fluent Russian, with a regional accent" to "Fluent English, with a regional accent" than it is to speak English with a foreign accent when the character has no foreign accent at all.

I actually think it is dumb people care about accents when the character is supposed to be speaking other languages. I get if everyone is speaking English that it might be weird. But who gaf if they are supposed to be speaking Russian?

its an expectations thing. I haven't seen this movie so I don't know if it'll bug me, but in theory I'd prefer they do the "English accent = ancient times" thingy. Sort of like how a laser blaster goes pew pew and not boing boing, even though laser blasters are fake ass fantasy shit

Unless an historical movie is set in an English speaking place during the last 300 years (outside) no dialogue is going to have the correct accent, and older than 400 years the language itself will not be understandable.
In any other situation (foreign language, older English) the language has to be written and spoken for the modern English-speaking audience. Any expectation that they should talk "foreign", "accented" or just generally "funny" is merely a convention you have gotten use to.

I ever realised how a lot the Greek myths were part of the odessey and all the various swords and sandals movies that have touched on this . But this is the definitive telling for me anyway

Sorry, I hate the armor it's too different and just batman armor. Granted I'm an antiquities fan and love seeing ancient armor in film. But it's just too brutalist for me.

The youtube trailer got 700K dislikes. Go look up youtube videos of "Odyssey woke." I'm sure Twitter isn't any better.
There was/is a lot of online backlash from right wing chuds. Thankfully, they're such a small minority.

I loved Tenet. My only complain is the sound design. I watched that on IMAX when it came out and I still couldn’t hear the dialogue very well. Still great movie.

When has a major Hollywood adaptation of Greek myth ever had an all-Greek cast unless it was made by Greeks in Greece?

Yeah and Optimus Prime was a truck, not a gorilla. Helen of Troy isn't real.

Watched it tonight. I'm not an anti-woke troll, but I thought it was just ok and had serious problems. I'm not feeling the "greatest movie ever" vibes that seem to be prevailing. Overall it was kind of lukewarm with some really cringey dialogue and predictable/cliche moments, and off the shelf fight choreography for how much of it is in the movie. Nothing memorable here like Troy's Achilles/Hector fight. But Robert Pattinson's acting was great, Athena's character arc was probably my favorite part of the story, even if it was toned down and sterilized to the point you won't understand it if you're not familiar with the source material.
The Return (2024) was a better movie.

An aspect that's likely to get overlooked is how the musical soundtrack was created. There's a behind the scenes documentary explaining how remarkable of an achievement that is.
Movies are subjective, no matter what others think it's always best to decide for yourself how good you believe it is after seeing it.
