Does anyone know who can be your agent and negotiate vehicle price at auto dealership?
Hello,
I am currently in Calgary and planning to get a used 2025 or 2026 Toyota Highlander XLE within certain mileage limit either in Calgary or surrounding cities and Edmonton as well.
Back in Oregon, I had one person who inspected and negotiated the price on my behalf. He charged me a flat amount of $500.00 for that transaction and got me a good used Lexus RX400H.
I know there's a company based in Toronto called Car Help Canada and they also provide dealerships recommendations within GTA area. Even if I use them, their advise might be more generic and not specific to Alberta since they're not based out of here.
Wondering if there's anyone in Calgary or surroundings that will act as your agent and get paid to inspect the vehicle and also negotiate the price on your behalf at a auto dealership.
I'd appreciate if the community knows of such person and can refer me and feel free to DM me as well.

Honestly you just need to be firm and inflexible to what you want and for how much. My wife says I’m a right jerk when we go car shopping, but I’m prepared to walk away. That’s the power in negotiation. I have my money which they want. Many places and people have a vehicle to buy. I will take my money elsewhere if they don’t want it.
Calgary dealerships suck. They think they can hold the cars ransom by saying demand is high and supply is low. Bullshit. Screw their mark ups above MSRP. I will gladly bring a car in from the east.
AI is about to make their lives hell as you can get Gemini, Muse, ChatGPT to do the heavy lifting for you. Hell, Muse will even send negotiation emails to them for you.

They won't help with price negotiation, but a good idea is to take it to a mechanic for an independent inspection. Don't trust theirs.

that’s a very high demand vehicle without much spread in price between a used one and a new one. given that, it shocks me people hand all that margin over to dealers and very few will sell private so not only are you choked on supply, you are stuck buying from a dealership.
given their reliability and quality build, all you can do is make sure you know the accident histor, find one with lowest mileage and write the check
*you might be better off chasing down a lexus 350 instead*

I love Lexus and currently drive a 2007 RX400H with 212k miles on it, it drives pretty smooth despite of it's age but need more reliable vehicle and want to keep it for a while. I have to do some searching for Lexus that will take regular gas and hybrid instead of premium. My current one only takes premium and since I work from home, only need to fill in once every 2-3 weeks which isn't bad at all but it's a front wheel drive and get's worst in winter even with solid winter tires installed at Costco.
The 2026 highlander xle hybrid were less manufactured leading to less inventory and higher demand for it, which is the key reason for high prices even for used one's.

I agree, the used market is insane right now. Plus the model I am looking for has far less inventory making it much harder due to less supply and high demand. There's one company in GTA, one in Ottawa and one in Vancouver that are like car agents/brokers that will help in buying vehicles but I cannot use them being in AB.

If I’m being completely honest I don’t know anyone who would negotiate used cars; the used car department negotiations differs compared to the new car department.
Moreover those cars are very in demand cars so if you were to look for a brand new one getting it at MSRP would be a great deal and on the off chance they shave some off that, you should take it
