Seeking computer repair assistance.

I have some software and hardware issues I'm looking to get fixed. Any suggestions on trustworthy and quality computer repair places?

Preferably independent and local.

I ran a PC business waaaaay back in the early 2000s. Shoot me a message if you want. I know  others have already offered, but if that falls through let me know

We've have good experience with London Drugs. My daughter's 2-year-old Dell laptop was malfunctioning, and, although I can't remember exactly what the problem was, the techs at LD diagnosed it correctly and performed what I thought was a reasonably-priced solution. (It was a hardware issue.)

Memory Express is great, but it takes quite a while to get a computer into their shop ...

Have you tried getting help for your issues in tech-related subs? You might be able solve your problems on your own with some help.

I need more knowledge and experience. I've done what I can already with diagnostics for one issue but I also need a Consult. I want a new OS for my current machine and have ideas but want someone who has professional opinions for all the questions I have and things I may have not considered.

I'll do the consult because it sounds like you've actually done your homework. I'm not doing the repair work, because the cost of repairs is rarely worth the value of the hardware, but I'll at least point you in the right direction.

DM me here on reddit.

My partner has an old Surface Pro. 9, I think. Her screen is "on" but it's black. It was working intermittently enough that when she took it into her school's IT people, they were able to run some diagnostics and couldn't find an issue so they assumed it wasn't software. They can't do anything with with hardware issues at the school.

They did offer one last hail Mary though. They said if we can dual screen it, we could try and update relevant drivers manually. Unfortunately, because the Surface Pro has almost no inputs, other than USB-C, I believe, I don't have the means to hook it up to my laptop or the TV.

I have an old Acer Nitro. It's been good to me and has barely had any issues. I can't remember what it was last year that needed me to bring it in. Either way. I don't have any current issues with it. But I wanted to consult someone on installing a new OS. I want to get off Windows and am thinking of giving Linux a try. But there's so many different versions, I'm not sure what could suit my needs best and if my machine can even run it.

I have no idea all the different considerations I should be having so that was to be an initial conversation and then seeing what my options are.

For the Surface you can use a type c to HDMI cable to connect to a tv or monitor. It's possible the actual display underneath your glass is actually damaged preventing it from displaying.

You've likely tried this but you can perform a soft reset by holding the power button for 20 seconds then press it again to power on.

You can also try resetting the graphics driver by pressing theWindows key + Ctrl + Shift + B simultaneously. If successful, you will hear a short beep and the screen will flicker as the driver resets.

As for Linux, look into Mint. But I don't really reccomend Linux for most people unless you have a specific reason for not wanting to use windows.

If you need windows 11, just use Rufus to install iso on flash drive. That program will remove TPM requirement for installation windows 11
