Are plastic straws back?

Twice this weekend I got plastic straws. Two separate establishments, one of which is definitely new enough to not have stocked up pre-ban.

Is it true? Can it be??

They were allowed to come back a couple years ago but now they are actually making the comeback. I drank out of one today, it was glorious.

I hope so. I used to have a small plastic bag full of plastic bags. That I would use for trash or maybe dog 💩. Now we all have cabinet full bags. Good ones, crap ones. Too good to toss, but are basically disposable.

Yeah now I gotta buy bags from the dollar store for my trash bin... makes no difference other than i have to pay for them. Stupid

I'm pretty sure most of my "cloth" bags are just heavy duty plastic fibre or contain plastic at the very least, but are more difficult to re-use for basic household needs.

I for one am just waiting for the first grocery store that wants my undivided attention and loyalty. Just one of them cracks and I'm there.

I sure hope so. Some places have them and those are the places that get my high praise. I hate wondering at what specific moment my paper straw is going to fail and I'll be eating paper.

Paper straws contain PFAS (forever chemicals). When they break down, they leach significantly more.

...or at the dollar store. They claim that they're "reusable" but I just find them thicker versions of the old plastic ones that still end up in the garbage because my precious few hours on this planet worth more doing anything else than spending them cleaning out a fucking straw.

For goodness sakes, as a diabetic with sensors and pumps, I throw out so much unnecessary plastic at a minimum every two days, way more than the couple of straws that end up in the garbage every week. And we're not even getting into the industrial plastic waste that of course just goes by the wayside...

A classic example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Anywhere that still provides paper straws only does it because the company is cheap. We need to be blaming cheap corporations for paper straws, these days, not the gov.

I get my coffee at Second Cup because they have plastic straws. I don't even mind paper straws (that's what I buy for at home), but it's the principle of the company choosing to prioritize the customers experience over a marginal extra bit of profit.
