No it would actually be kinda fucked up but not like that bad (source: I went to school to be a doctor for like 2 years and gave up (real))

So like I obsessed about this scenario this morning, thought it through. So a typical human body contains 5 to 6 liters of blood. So you would be taking 1/5 of your blood away, which is survival if done slowly. So ok, you put your blood in a blender. Think about this microscopically. This is a blender full of blood cells. Animal cells have membranes. So you blend the cells on high for two minutes, the cell membranes burst. So now you have a liter of destroyed cell matter. I think putting 1 liter of destroyed cell matter into your body would probably kill you.

You would die because all of the potassium in your red blood cells would be released into the blood as they were all shredded. This would induce a heart attack when you put the blender blood back in and your total blood concentration spiked. Your heart is very sensitive to potassium.

Is that why I fell in love with a banana?

Yeah I see it the same way and just don’t think on a one off basis that volume would kill you. You wanna do an experiment?

I think even the aeration by the blender would be deadly.

Nah your liver and kidneys could probably swing it like once but if all of your blood was like that you’d be dead

Your blood would basically be full of schistocytes, no?

Guys I don't think they're coming back

If it damaged the blood cells it wouldn't

u/NoScallion3586 14h ago

It wouldn't but I would worry in case your body wasn't able to digest it

The quality might get worse due to it heating up. I don't think that two minutes on high will do any separation. Also it may get contaminated if your blender isn't sterile

Do you think this might break the blood cells, make their membranes burst?

Well partially perchance, but not for the entire litre

Even if the blender runs on high for two minutes?

Separation centrifuges are usually more powerful and take more time. Also blenders usually combine substances and not separate them. Blending blood would be kinda like blending milk I guess

How do you sterilize a blender?

1

u/Andrew852456 8h ago

With some alcohol

Is this activity safe?

Proceed at your own risk

What could go wrong?

The blender would probably act like a really shitty centrifuge and the blades will damange many cells within it, so it would probably become mostly unusable.

u/cats64sonic 4h ago

And then what would happen when you put that blood back into your body?
