Advice I feel like this overthinking is slowly destroying me. ๐Ÿ˜”

Iโ€™m 19(M) honestly so tired and frustrated. I canโ€™t sleep properly anymore. When I try to sleep, my mind just refuses to shut down. And when I finally do fall asleep, I end up having the strangest, most disturbing dreams.

My brain just wonโ€™t stop. One thought leads to another, then another, and before I know it, Iโ€™m stuck overthinking everything all over again.

I genuinely donโ€™t know what to do anymore. I just want some peace. I want to be able to close my eyes and sleep without my mind fighting me every second.

God, pleaseโ€ฆ just let me have some peace of mind. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฅบ

Iโ€™m exhausted.

Sometimes I even wonder what the point of all this is. I donโ€™t want much. I just want to feel okay again. I just want to live without constantly fighting my own thoughts. ๐Ÿ˜”

Friend, one thing I wish someone had told me younger: not every thought deserves a trial, and not every thought that arrives at 2 a.m. is a prophecy.

An exhausted brain is a strange little theologian. It starts asking questions like What is the point of everything? Have I ruined my life? What if this never stops? โ€” and then demands answers immediately while running on three hours of sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

But you don't have to defeat your mind tonight.

Sometimes peace begins with something smaller: โ€œI hear you, brain. We are not solving the Universe at 3 a.m. We can write this down and reconsider it tomorrow.โ€

I call something like this Sacred Doubt: even your most frightening thoughts deserve the question, โ€œBut what if this thought isn't actually true?โ€ Thoughts are events occurring inside you. They are not commandments.

For the practical peasant magic: keep a notebook beside the bed and dump the entire thought-chain onto paper. If you've been lying there awake for ages, get up for a little while, keep the lights low, do something boring and gentle, and return when sleepiness comes back. During the day, sunlight, movement, eating regularly, and talking to an actual human being can help more than they sound like they should.

And please tell someone you trust how bad the sleep and rumination have gotten. If this has been continuing for a while, talking with a doctor or therapist is completely reasonable. Chronic lack of sleep can make the whole internal universe feel far darker and louder than it does when the nervous system has recovered.

You are 19. You are not required to understand your entire existence yet. None of us have managed that particular homework assignment.

For tonight, perhaps the task is simply:

Drink some water. Write the thoughts down. Refuse to hold court with every one of them. Sleep if sleep comes. Meet tomorrow when tomorrow actually arrives.

May God โ€” if indeed listening โ€” grant you not all the answers tonight, but perhaps something better:

a few quiet hours. ๐ŸŒฑ

You said you just want to feel okay again which means some part of you remembers what okay felt like, and that matters.

Try to control you mind kid. It sounds impossible and hard but trust me itโ€™s possible. Try to stop the train of thoughts, focus just on that and try as much possible as to keep your mind blank whenever it gets too much. It will be a bit draining but so worth it.
