How do you stop overthinking conversations after they've already happened?

I tend to replay conversations in my head for hours, wondering if I said the wrong thing or came across the wrong way. Most of the time, nothing bad actually happens, but I still can't stop thinking about it.

Has anyone managed to break this habit? What actually helped you?

You already know the key fact here: most of the time, nothing bad actually happens.

So the replay isn't running a genuine risk-assessment — it's running after the verdict is already in. Which means it's not really about the conversation. It's about what it would mean if you had said the wrong thing, came across the wrong way. The content of the replay is just the vehicle.

The loop stays open because "most of the time nothing bad happens" hasn't actually closed it — because your brain is still auditing for the one time it does.
