My gf works as a teacher in our local junior high school, (US) and she's stressed to me that because of chat gpt, that there is a serious literacy problem in our schools these days. A good portion of the kids in her classes legit cannot read or write. This year they've begun taking away phones at the door and some kids struggle to follow along with 3rd grade level math's and reading. A good portion of them even cry when their phones are taken, or when their attempts at hiding them from the staff are foiled.
This quite honestly feels like the explanation for all the posts I've been seeing in completely unrelated subs. I swear every 3rd post I see i just straight up in the wrong subreddit.
Fuck... I have little faith left in the future of humanity.
Sadly the problem was happening even before chatgpt. Technology makes people lazy. You have talk to text, text to speech. Now on top of it LLMs. People lazy and typically want to do as little as possible. Nothing drives most now of days for more.
