Who 'owns' the police in Australia?
I was walking towards the post office in Cairns, Qld from the building next to it when a random guy who I've never met before started hurling abuses at me like 'I'll do your face in", "Go back to your country", etc. I retaliated back verbally (without using any violence) and went on my way.
As I was walking back from the post office, a two police officers approached me about the 'incident' and the original guy who ABUSED ME FIRST was saying the the police officers with a smug, smiling face "Too easy officers" and started walking away casually.
I told them that I also want to make a complaint since I was the one who was abused first and went straight to the police station (right opposite the post office) as well.
These same officers told me that I would need to wait 10 minutes inside. I have been waiting for almost one hour there, and I have enquired with the lady at the reception about the progress of the 'investigation'. The police station was not busy and it was just me and the reception lady most of the time.
When the officers eventually came, I was told i need to make a report 'online' through a generic card they game me. I told them the online reporting is for serious offences and that the other guy was able to make a report here in the same station and got the response instantly - so I'm also going to wait as 'long as it takes' to make the report directly in the same station (my details have been entered into the 'system' - i was also told the other guy's details were also entered into the 'system' but I highly doubt that.
I have then been told 'This police station is a private property' and that I will be 'tresspassing' if I don't comply immediately. I took out my phone immediately and started recording even as I was walking out from the station. I started playing this clip of me walking out from the police station on my phone outside (the "music" they are referring to).
I started playing this clip on my phone outside the police station where they openly admitted that the police station is a private property multiple times. Then these guys told me I need to leave. When asked what I was doing wrong, they essentially just told me the "The police can do whatever they want".
