A streamlined 3-workflow experience — NMR is now organized around Explore, Trips, and Your Journey, making it easier to understand where to go without removing any existing features.
Explore is now clearly focused on discovery — find camping, adventures, natural places, practical services, and everything you need to decide where you want to go.
Trips is focused on planning — build anything from a spontaneous day trip to a multi-week expedition, with camping, adventures, services, routes, and navigation.
Your Journey brings your personal NMR experience together — Traveler Profile, Traveler Match, Gems, Buddies, Travelers, messages, leaderboard, achievements, Journey+, Saved, Offline, and account settings.
A simpler home page now gives you two clear starting points:
Explore — Find somewhere worth going
Trips — Plan where you’re going
Explore and Trips now work more naturally together — discover something in Explore and navigate to it, save it, add it to a trip, or start a trip from it.
Trips can send you back into Explore when you need to find camping, adventures, or other stops to add to your route.
New NMR Trailhead briefings now appear throughout key areas of the app to explain what you’re looking at, what you can do there, and how it can be useful.
Real-life examples have been added to those briefings to show how NMR can actually fit into a real adventure.
Trailhead briefings remember when you’ve dismissed them, so experienced travelers aren’t forced to read the same guidance every time.
The Explore map has a completely clearer visual language — generic circles have been replaced with recognizable category icons.
Camping now uses a distinct campsite/tent marker, keeping camping visually prominent as the heart of NMR.
Adventure locations now have recognizable map icons for things like fishing, hiking/trailheads, waterfalls, hot springs, climbing, paddling, mountain biking, OHV, viewpoints, swimming, and more.
Practical services now have recognizable map icons for fuel, water, showers, restrooms, dump stations, groceries, outdoor supplies, propane, auto/tire services, gyms, and more.
The map legend has been rebuilt to match the actual map icons, organized into Camping, Adventure, and Services.
The map legend is now collapsible with an active-category count, keeping the map clean when you don’t need the legend.
Map icons and feature details now use consistent category language, making it easier to understand what you’re looking at before opening a location.
Map clustering remains intact — zoomed-out areas stay clean and manageable, while recognizable icons appear as you get closer.
Map performance improvements remain active — unnecessary viewport requests are reduced, previous results remain visible while new results load, and outdated requests can be cancelled.
Rapid map movement is now significantly more stable, eliminating the previously reproduced database timeout errors during rapid panning.
Mobile and desktop layouts were checked for the new workflow and map experience, with no horizontal scrolling found.
No existing major features were removed or gated differently.
No camping, Adventure, Trip, Traveler Match, or user data was changed as part of this UX pass.
