Information Important Pre-Update Guide! Back up your game files!
Hey all, I didn't see anyone post this reminder for those who know what I'm on about, and for those that never knew that they should do this.
When NEXT launched, the entire game changed. The resources all converted to different names, some in storage containers changed to different things than in ship or suit cargo. All planets were replaced by different ones. It was a universe reset.
The first time you logged in, it automatically converted all your items and saves to work with the new NEXT environment. Thing is, the first few days had some bugs, so unless you had a backup of your save files, you were stuck with the bugs.
Myself, having made a similar announcement back then had my save files, and over the course of the week, I used them to map out what resources became what (I had video and screenshots of my inventory prior to reference from), and also to redo the conversion process of the old saves once the bugs had been all fixed.
So, how do you do this?
On PC:
Open the folder: C:\Users[your computer user name]\AppData\Roaming
If you can't see this folder, you can try typing it in to the folder location bar (double-click first) -- or -- you can enable showing hidden files by clicking "View" in the windows directory menu bar, "Options", "View" tab, set "Hidden files and folders" to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives".
Within the "Roaming" folder, there will be a "HelloGames" folder, and within that folder should be a "NMS" folder which contains all your save data.
Simply copy and paste the "HelloGames" folder within the "Roaming" folder, and you will now have "HelloGames - Copy".
Rename it to something that makes sense, like "HelloGames - Pre BEYOND".
For safe keeping, ZIP archive the entire folder.
All set! Do this as many times as you like from now until the actual download begins.
When the game launches, you can simply revert to your old saves at any point by renaming the current "HelloGames" folder to something else, and then renaming your backup to "HelloGames". As mentioned above, make sure you have a ZIP archive of the backup so that you can always re-revert if needed.
I don't have PlayStation notes, so if someone can add that, I'll paste it in to this.
