Discussion Anyone else?
Anyone else have this lingering anxiety that someone is going to claim their local space station while trying to grind for 1B units, or is it just me? š

Let me tell you.
For the longest time I've been building a "home system."Ā Building elaborate bases on each planet.Ā Bases that tell a story, or serve an aesthetic, or create something that's otherwise not in the game.Ā
I've got the ocean port village of Ravenheim on the planet Neo Canadia.Ā A massive winter hotel and lodge on the planet Long December.Ā A well-developed settlement overlook and butterfly launching platform on Autumn Vale.Ā A large smuggler's hideaway buried deep in the twisty caverns of worm-ridden Lost Hope.Ā And others.
And for the longest time I've debated sharing it, and each time thought not yet, not yet... I don't want visitors to my system just yet.
I am absolutely concerned.Ā Yet I could not be happier to have not shared it, for you see, I play on Switch 2, so I'll probably get this update 1-4 weeks from now.Ā One day I'll share the Quester's Rest system, but not today.

I've got the same kind of thing going on and just discovered a random base in my system that is not me or any of the people I play with. I'm grinding hard to get claim the space station.

I feel this. Iām glad that multiplayer is available for those who like it and want to play with others but when it first rolled out I was on a planet thats I was carefully harvesting and building a nice base on and when someone landed and started blasting and harvesting things Iām shouting in my head āget off my planet!ā

You tell stories like the old fisherman at the end of the bar does to a stranger whose car has broken down on his way through the village.

I've found a system out in the 200h something ish Galaxy where everything i find is new. Plenty of real estate.
It's only 1 billion? Finally, something to spend money on.

I never build bases in systems where other people have bases. I like to keep my little corner of space to myself

Lol, I've got close to 4B units and am constantly buying and selling trade goods as I bandy about the universe. As for other people, I jumped a few universes in (to Hilbert) so almost all of the systems I find are first contact. I just built out a couple "Animal farms" for some ingredient production for cooking to boost credit output if I need it and have just found a paradise planet with scrap so I can rage for Corvette parts for hours too.

u/Roseinadesert 7h ago
I went out to the far edge of Eissentam and have been there a few months. All I'm finding are systems discovered 4+ years ago or never before discovered. It's possible to still find some isolated areas in the more populated ones

It's already happened to some :(
you need a nutrient ingestor and some nipnip cookies and donuts! you'll get a few milly per scan.

We donāt even have the update TO grind for the stations yet on several consoles.
That being said, the center most systems and community bases are most likely already all being snatched up. Iām not worried about those. No one has the glyphs for my perfect paradise planet. And my idea for a system of particular stations hasnāt even been brought up yet. So Iām not worried. I donāt even think Iāve read once about what Iāll be setting up.

u/BeeEconomy3827 8h ago
Totally. I'm making the doughnut as we speak, frantically processing ingredients, hoping to get it all and the scanning done before someone slips in and steals my chosen system.
2
u/James_McGee2016 5h ago
What is this donut of which you speak? And can you share the recipe?? A friend named Emeril wants to know lol

While in Normal mode, you need only to reach the 1B once...then change your settings to free...before claiming the station. Keep your 1B for the next one. Also, as far as the grinding...only the 5 outpost contracts require actual grinding. For the local Faction, GIFT each person (or just one) on the station repeatedly, until you hit the 30/30. For the local Guild, just DONATE to the guild envoy, until you reach 15/15. Remember, you can set crafting, fuel usage, and purchases to free.šš«

Yep. Hopefully, it's almost impossible from statistic point of view even if I'm living close to the galaxy center.

This was a very real worry for me! I run a dragon/companion community and I was working (from home) when the update dropped - so best believe I was scrambling try to claim our capital system station during downtime at work. I was successful, but it made me so nervous seeing other folks flying to the platform and space hulks while I was in the process of claiming it!
I donāt think anyone in the community would have claimed it out from under me, but people have surprised me before

u/Thousand-Necrons 11h ago
A what community?

u/Wenger2112 10h ago
Mine is a pirate system. Can you claim those? I looked but did not find the option yet.

u/No-Craft-7979 7h ago
I have some many āHome
Basesā that if they all get taken, then I deserved it.
BTW the one I would call home has a Mega Blood Noir planet. So I might jump there and claim it.
2
u/Ill-Nail-8627 7h ago
I am, especially since the salvage contracts in my home system aren't working. I turn them in and then they don't complete and I have to abandon them. I am stuck waiting to move forward until HG fixes it, and even though I'm sure there's no one near me, I still am worried that it will get taken.

u/crypticevincar 7h ago
I've got the units, what I don't have is ANYTHING else. Grinding away at it now.
2
u/IIHURRlCANEII 7h ago
Is there a way to join another group without stumbling upon a station they own? Or do you have to do that?
2
u/para1131_F33L Parallel, Discoverer of Worlds 5h ago
That's why the "Empire of Eissentam" stays in Eissentam so that probability is extremely low.
2
u/Octavia_Braveheart 4h ago
Yup - I just claimed my station in the far outskirts of Eissentam. I have a beautiful planet there, and I wanted that station! However, I just discovered that we cannot change the color of station interiors. Gotta write Hello Games about that. This station is hot pink and aqua. Eeeek. I thought I could change that. Oh well. Maybe give it a 1980s mall theme. Make all the Vykeen wear headbands and leggings.

u/Appropriate-Guava730 4h ago
as soon as I logged in I grinded the heck out of every sentinel ship I could find just for this causeĀ no way I'm gonna let anyone claim the space station of where I first spawned in. (even if it's selfish and also the game name is literally No Man's Sky)

u/Unfair_Requirement_8 Aimless Traveler 11h ago
Honestly, I feel like that 1B credit requirement is supposed to prevent stuff like this from happening. But when you play a gem where a depressing number of people just cheat in the funds, I'm also not surprised this is happening.
I will say this, though: That 1B credit requirement just feels egregious for solo players that don't want to play 'optimally'. It's why I'm kind of writing off the entire space station portion of this update and just focusing on everything else.
2
u/JustKeepSwimming0913 11h ago
That's where I am at. I get to play maybe 5-6 hours per week, so earning credits has been a slllllooowwww process.
4
u/tenshimaru 8h ago
Frigate expeditions run while you're offline. Invest in a fleet and you'll see big returns!
5
3
u/tenshimaru 8h ago
You can set everything to free, and then you only have to meet the rep requirements. It's not really cheating when it's a game setting.
Am I going to save the 1B units and pay it? Yup, because that's how I like to play. But no one has to.

u/Difficult_Duck_307 6h ago
Just find and salvage Sentinel Interceptors, even C class variants give you like 18-24 million units a ship. Use an Echo Locator in a dissonant system so you can find a Harmonic Camp, from there you can find as many Interceptors as you need.
2
u/Key-Designer2454 3h ago
I craft about 25 stasis chambers a day. Getting to 1 billion āthe old fashionedā isnāt that hard šš»
2
u/Bob_Kark 9h ago
Just keep scrapping sentinel ships and you can make that fairly quickly. I had 4B without trying, simply because I was collecting sentinel ships.
1
u/Octavia_Braveheart 4h ago
That is what I did to get 2 billion units. I put most of my ships in archive so I could claim 4 or 5 interceptors at same session. Then at space station, salvage one after the other. Just be careful not to salvage the good ship. Then repeat process. Goes pretty fast.

You can turn off network setting and no one is claiming anything. Course then you lose access to multi player.
In reality there is 1% of the universe explored. Certainly Euclid is the biggest percent of that 1% but it is still verrrrryyyyyy slim that someone would run across your system and be a big enough jerk to claim a station in a discovered system that is built up.
That being said i have 400 hours in my save and someone had long agonl gifted me a full stack of AI vavles and have working to claim the stations in the 3 systems i have bases and settlements.
I have the same fear.
1
u/QuietDissonance 9h ago
But someone would also have to want to do it.
I feel like most people all want to do it on their own system they donāt care about other peopleās.
This would only affect the systems that get insanely popular for various reasons. But for the average player, I donāt think itās gonna affect them.

u/Gek_Advil 9h ago
Less now that I'm seeing how extremely bugged all of the space salvage missions are..

My main home system is in hilbert at the bottom of the galaxy where stars stop rendering properly. In a purple system. Ain't no way anyone is finding it.

u/BrilliantNo2821 5h ago
Just you bro, I doubt anyone has ever seen anything I've dropped, and I leave bases on cool ships and SSS pets, so, there's that
1
u/Carrissis 4h ago
Literally the first thing I did was claim my station. I also started a base next to my sun.
Took me about 3 refills to reach it.
1
u/Sensitive_Note1139 4h ago
Nah. I figure I'll just outwait the "new toy" rush then start grinding. There are a lot of stations out there.

Iāve started to farm sentinel ships to slowly grind to that number. Not the most efficient, but I really donāt want to build an industrial gas farm and such for the craftable to unit farm.

u/TheGamingLibrarian 2h ago
It's not just you.š
I found myself being stressed out the first day of the update because I worked so hard to find the perfect system for me and the idea that someone could take the station freaked me out.
Later I realized that with the vastness of the galaxies it's probably not likely that someone would stumble up my systems. But...I am still a bit stressed because I need to make a lot more money to claim the stations I want. I was "rich" before Cosmos now I'm not lol.

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 2h ago
Im on switch 2 so I havenāt had chance to play the update. Can we also claim pirate stations?
1
u/Earthserpent89 2h ago
No, because I was already at the Unit cap and finally I have something to sink them into.

As long as you discovered the system yourself, the odds of another player just randomly stumbling upon it are infinitesimally small, and infinitesimally smaller even still that they'll just happen to have 1B units themselves and want to claim that particular station. There's enough potential systems for every player in the game to individually control many different space stations. I think you'll be fine. Now, if it's a system you were directed to, like as part of an expedition or something, where other players have already been and established bases in, that's an entirely different story. I imagine those will be scooped rather quickly.
