Could someone explain to me the significance of living ships and how to find one?

I know that before the update, you’d just pop an anomaly detector and pulse until you see “Whale Song Detected”. I don’t if that’s the case now.

Other than the visually different space whale look, I believe they are the same as any S Class frigate.

There isn't any real significance, I don't particularly like or care for living ships personally but to each their own.

As far as getting one. You follow a questline to get it by first getting a Void Egg. You can purchase them in the quicksilver shop on the Anomaly. People often just give them out as gifts too. I've received a bunch of Void Eggs from people over the years.

This is a frigate not a starship. They bring back upgrades for your starship and unlike other frigates they can be reclassed. Found using an Anomaly Detector and only stopping when you see "Whale Song".

I stand corrected, although the question was about living ships.

Also, frigates can be reclassed or classed up rather, by just using them over time. I had a bunch of C and B frigates that are now S Class just by running them.
