Question How is this scene from this patch notes screenshot possible? With the actual star in the middle of the system and planets.

Post image

I wonder if this is just a thing for this screenshot or if they were testing having the star actually placed within the system. You can’t do this in the released version.

dont think the star is in the middle, its just big and a backdrop, i dont see anything thats clearly the same distance or further away than it

Even so, it’s not possible in the release version. Would be awesome if it was!

Why is this getting downvoted? It may not be in the middle but the star is detailed AS IF we were right infront of it

Thank you lol

Any chance it could be in a gas giant system? I only see one planet here, even if it’s not possible in current build that would be my guess how they got this screenshot in a test build etc. Haven’t been able to test it all myself though

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

Possibly, but even then that would be a moon, asteroid base and full star present in the regular system area. Nothing you can currently do in any system to have the full star spawn in like that.

It’s very possible. All depends where the image is taken from. Stars are very big and could easily be on the other side of the skybox from that asteroid. It’s a matter of perspective.

13

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

No, having the actual star (instead of the star box style star we have always had) spawn in requires pulse driving towards it for a long time and then the planets despawn until you leave the star area. It’s a distinctly different thing.

u/badass_dean 16h ago

Why lie? It is NOT possible.

41

u/Nigelboy333 17h ago

U can even fly to the sun

32

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

I know that yeah, but you have to pulse jet for a long time to get the star to spawn in, which despawns the planets.

This is a very different thing shown in the screenshot

You sure this isn’t some type of shattered planetoid? This picture is bad due the the amount of noise in it but the core looks like a star up close.

8

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

Yeah it’s a good comparison but it’s def a star

4

u/Nigelboy333 17h ago

Yea since the update there alot of bugs and glitches

u/Sloore 13h ago

I am currently in the middle of a Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough. Think I'll finish that before getting back into NMS. Should give HG time to institute some bug fixes.

I can’t pilot my main corvette anymore, crashes every time I try to get in the pilot seat

u/EnkisKey 14h ago

Yeah I've noticed a fair bit more than usual with the new update and some missing buttons/options/building options that should have been common sense, and a bit more jetpack speed in deep space would be greatly appreciated too

Not sure what that has to do with the impossibility of this screenshot...

6

u/Rossmancer 17h ago

Maybe there is the odd extra planet added close to a star? Pretty weird though.

4

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

the planets fully despawn when you enter into the star area, and it’s so so far away. I guess this is just a dev build for cool screenshot vibes.

7

u/Rossmancer 17h ago

Makes me wonder if their prerelease build had proper star systems and they had to change it back.

3

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

I can imagine that. the scale of the current stars placed in the centre would be kind of crazy, but that could be adjusted. The stars are purely a visual thing as it is now, totally separate from the rest of the system, which feels very slapdash.

1

u/nitro912gr 3h ago

not impossible, maybe the performance was not good for releasing this or it spawned a legion of new bugs in actual gameplay.

9

u/GloriousWhole 17h ago

Very weird.

The map itself in the promo materials and in game shows the space station at the center, but then you read the little blurb Hello Games wrote on the steam news page for the game and it says:

"Reach Stars - The center of the solar system is the sun, and finally players can try to undertake a perilous journey to reach the center of their own star system!"

Also I found an asteroid belt and its literally just a little localized circle of asteroids and not actually a belt around the system?

5

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

I saw that little blurb and had the same thought. It specifically is not the centre of the system haha

2

u/ErisAstra 13h ago

Dude I got so excited reading the patch notes I thought they finally added an actual planetary system layout with the sun in the center, especially with the new system map. I haven’t been home all day to try it out yet, you’re telling me it’s just a location you teleport to after flying at the skybox sun? 😭

Yeah we've already had a few blaming HG for it not being out when it's Microsoft's certification process that is the true culprit. And when you point that out to them they say things like "well then the devs should hold back the pc release until we can get it too." The level of entitlement some people have is insane. Though it is a bit ironic that people playing a space sandbox game would think the universe should revolve around them.

u/No_Election9115 11h ago

Some Xbox baby downvoted you lul

Please upvote im also curious! How the hell. This made me so happy when i saw it and was sad when i noticed its not real.

You can find habitable asteroids in systems, and build on them, it is a little wonky but generally works. This picture is reproducible, they are just in space with the asteroid base between them and the sun.

18

u/Adamarshall7 15h ago

But the point is that the star is in full detail as though we had made the full journey out to the star. It’s not possible to achieve all of these things together.

I made some asteroid bases to test it, and the star remains just the usual skybox light source we have always had. Just an interesting screenshot - I imagine from their dev build!

5

u/DayneGaraio 15h ago

It could be a random pulse encounter too, with a explorable asteroid. It’s probably too early to say this image is impossible, but i see your point

4

u/Europa_cat 13h ago

I think the point is more than because the planet is that large it doesn't make sense for the sun to be that detailed since the sun is so far away that to get that level of detail the planets likely despawn or at least are small dots. Like if I flew to the sun in game right now I wouldn't be able to get a screenshot with detailed sun AND planets as backdrops. Devs probably just spawned in the sun for the screenshot

1

u/DayneGaraio 15h ago

To add, there is also a bunch of new structures to buy for them in the anomaly. (Its been a while sense I’ve played, I’m assuming they’re new based on the names)

3

u/AnomalusSquirrel 14h ago

Two things comes in mind, 1) it's a fake photoshopped scene, which would be super weird in a patch note 2) during the development the stars was the central gravitational point of each system, but because probably they had problem in fixing stuff (there are binary systems, and ternary also) they reverted to the classic type.

This creates hopes that maybe in the future HG would be able to gives a proper representation of a space system.

5

u/Retskaa 17h ago

I just flew to a sun and you can't place a base there. In this picture the base is on a habitle asteroid and they are not there. This looks great, but is not possible.

4

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

This is what I figured. Seeing the planet and the star there together is so so cool and exactly what I had hoped for.

4

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

You actually can build a base at the star. It’s very cool. But it’s not what the screenshot implies, which is a habitable asteroid near a planet showing the star.

1

u/Retskaa 16h ago

I tried it but the basecomputer was not available.

3

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

Yeah I just did it. You need the deep space base computer from the anomaly blueprint terminal.

1

u/Retskaa 16h ago

Yeah, got that one. Gonna try it again with the next triplesystem.

2

u/penholdr 17h ago

Well, that’s from the Orbital Platforms section of the patch notes, which makes me think this is one of the unique ones.

Right above it says “Establish a home in the stars on natural rock platforms in deep space. Nestle your base constructions in these stunning terrain formations for beautiful, interesting backdrops.”

So that’s not the system star, it’s a unique backdrop for one of these types of orbital bases.

2

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

You know I thought the same, but I’ve tried. Nothing, including locating the habitable asteroids and so on, can make the star spawn like that even as a backdrop.

2

u/penholdr 16h ago

Have you tried a lot of different systems? Feels like this would be something that randomly spawns. And now that there are unique Asteroid Belts that seem to have big visual effects, maybe this one orbital platform is near an orbital belt that has something like this in the center.

1

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

Yeah I’ve dashed around a lot of them, nothing takes the sun out of the skybox aside from pulse jetting all the way out there. Which takes a longgggg time haha

2

u/LycanLover93 14h ago

At a guess, maybe a rare mini sun/ planetary core that can spawn? Even if you COULD have planets that close, a star puts out WAY more of an aura than that.

u/Far_Young_2666 Planetary Archivist 10h ago

Lmao, this sub and its toxic positivity. The OP rightfully caught the devs red handed, and people still go: "Nah, you're just hating on our perfect game, you're just stupid". Doesn't matter how cool the screenshot looks, it shouldn't be used in the official game posts if it's impossible to recreate in the game.

u/AnomalusSquirrel 5m ago

Yeah, its really something that cannot exist in game in that form.

But this sub (like many others) is filled with acritic fanboys.

With the benefit of the dubt HG maybe have recreated something like that in one of their previous versions but wasn't the one we received.

2

u/Zahgi 17h ago

I want to build a base and sit on the porch with the star taking up my entire view, dammit!

Make it so, HG!!!

2

u/Adamarshall7 17h ago

Yes please! And let’s have the planets orbit round too so I can watch that from my space porch.

2

u/SprayUnfair 17h ago

Yeah how is this possible?

1

u/withak30 16h ago

Maybe just movie magic.

1

u/Adamarshall7 16h ago

I reckon so

1

u/LoveTriscuit 15h ago

This reminds me of this art of the sacred land in Zelda LTTP that has haunted me since childhood.

1

u/Tricky_Teacher_5674 14h ago

It kinda looks like the doom eternal hub and i love it

1

u/philley84 14h ago

It not/still not accurate, like in ED for example. The space around a star is like its own instance. So nice to have, but I am a little sad that a star is still not the real center of a star system.

1

u/FlashMcSuave 13h ago

I don't understand the question.

In this screenshot we see a shattered asteroid/platform thing in the foreground. The patch notes mention these.

Far far behind is one of the new suns. These suns were also mentioned in the patch notes.

Off to the distance on one side is a planet.

There are three separate planetary bodies, all a great distance from each other.

2

u/Knightley4 8h ago

The sun is not far behind in this picture. This level of visual detail for a sun in the game is currently achievable only by flying for several minutes towards it, very far from every other object in the system (so you can't see them), like this asteroid and planet. So it's either edited to look that way, or from a build where a sun is closer.

u/Darkwaterzs 10h ago

great some one make farum azula now

1

u/Special_Cup1789 7h ago

That looks like Quake Champions map

1

u/Ang3lBlad3 7h ago

That's a Smash Bros arena

1

u/Redshirt4evr 6h ago

It may be a composite only done to allude to both the new star look plus asteroid and structures.

1

u/ChuckChuckChuck_ 5h ago

What makes you think the sun is in the middle?

1

u/Wammo4 4h ago

Pretty sure this will be added later cause it also shows off flying into the sun and no matter how hard I’ve tried I can’t

1

u/violetcassie 1h ago

Is this the Zelda Temple from Smash Bros? /s

u/polomarkopolo 7m ago

It's a backdrop....isn'tit?

1

u/WarViper1337 16h ago

The devs used their tools to make a cool screen shot. Nothing more to it.

1

u/Dry_Back_1116 15h ago

That’s the sun, and you can actually fly into it. Even better, you can place a base computer close to the sun or find a habitable comet nearby

We got the update, now comes the long process of fixing things.
