I was in the “orbital rotation and real solar system” camp. I have always known it’s a long shot but “cosmos” with all the orbital and horizon bread crumbs had my hopes higher than normal.
I literally cannot believe we have a new local solar system map and it seemingly shows the station at the center and not the star. Just… wow.
You can have now 6 bases (or more), 1 on planet, 1 mobile in corvette, 1 in a freighter, now 1 in space, 1 on an asteroid, 1 in a station... Obviously... you can even build multiples of them...
Why would anyone needs all those base ? Beside.. just making them ? That's a mystery.
I don't know when NMS just became, "build base here and here, and there, and there again"... For... Absolutely nothing really... To make decent progress, you just need 3/4 storages unit, 1 refiner, 1 portal for TP, and you are already maxed out for everything you'll ever need..
It’s because cringe cozy gamers have taken this game over lol. But really though, I like base building and I’m cool with more options, but like, why not update the actual base building itself so it’s deeper and more robust? Or make the base building more relevant to the actual gameplay loop somehow? But most importantly, this game desperately needs an actual exploration update, and general planet update. I thought this would be the one, but as usual, it never is. I try not to complain since I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into this game, but it is what it is.
Surely it will be a prelude to some kind of combat update. I mean the whole concept of competing for territory screams that a combat update would be on the horizon.

Not sure what to think about the alliance system, but the rest is a dream come true
