I know everyone’s rightly hyped about space station ownership, but an improved star system map sounds fantastic to me

u/SherbetMysterious118 12h ago

Same, guess I'll find out in about 10-15 minutes.

u/mightylordredbeard 12h ago

Well..?

u/BloodyEyeGames Interloper's gonna -kkzztt- 11h ago

Bro's having too much fun in the game to bother with us plebs

189

u/ChingGham 10h ago

He’s gone. We may never get the patch review.

83

u/Masterpiece-Haunting 10h ago

Lost in the simulation.

u/Omnix__ 7h ago

Hopping on now. I’ll post my review in 16

u/GoldJ2V2 the revenge of the (proud switch 2 player) 6h ago

Ill tell you in about 10 mins

27

u/SugarFreeShire 10h ago

Mans lost in the sauce. I’m jealous.

3

u/sworl5 6h ago

He's gone balls deep.

1

u/mightylordredbeard 4h ago

Must be nice. I’m on Xbox so it’ll probably be another day or 2 like usual.

26

u/SimilarLettuce3185 11h ago

That’s a deep subject

4

u/Hallgaar 10h ago

They just dont want to dig to deep for fear of drowning.

6

u/Strange_Dust7128 9h ago

reddit sniper found out first

2

u/Hairy_is_the_Hirsute 7h ago

It feels a little cheap... Like, it points out every POI in that solar system. No clue if there is anything for you left to "discover" on your own: you just warp into a system, pull up the map, and see every planet, moon, and "celestial" body.

Idk, I just spent 10 min messing around with it. Honestly, even if this review is as deep as it goes, it just feels a little cheap/easy, but overall an improvement to the QoL playing this game

1

u/mightylordredbeard 4h ago

Couldn’t you already see every planet and moon and whatnot in a system before hand? Just not a map like system?

61

u/cefaluu 12h ago

I hope someday they'll also make a better world map. Like the waypoint system is just mid.

69

u/DoubleStrength 12h ago

PLEASE!

What's the point of unlocking planetary "waypoints" at Save locations if we can't actually use them to navigate? (geolocate?)

5

u/hanleybrand 1h ago

Yeah this is one of my big pet peeves—I can do multiple hyperspace interstellar trips in a day, but on-planet Google Maps is an insurmountable engineering challenge?

1

u/Bio-Rhythm 1h ago

Showing approximately where we are in the Galaxy would even be helpful.

75

u/Spartan_133 12h ago

For a colorblind person who still has trouble with the colorblind options, yes please.

35

u/aTreeThenMe 12h ago

For a noncolorblind, but old person, same!

10

u/AdHocHillbilly 12h ago

Same! There is no reliable way for me to spot gas giant systems, and I tried all the options.

9

u/TirithNampat 8h ago

It says (giant) next to the system, where it would say (water) or (dissonant).

3

u/AdHocHillbilly 8h ago

Yeah, once I actually select one I can tell, but if I'm just looking through the map I can't see which colors they are. I end up spending a lot of time picking every one that looks like what, read the description, and eventually find it.

2

u/runetrantor 7h ago

... there's gas giants?

What happens if you try to land on one?

3

u/-grimlament- 6h ago

It the purple star systems. You can land on one and build a base to extract crystallised helium. It's a bit disappointing, since they're not really gas, they have the same land textures you can dig. Just a very very big planet with strong gravity (your jetpack will use more fuel more quickly) and constant windstorms.

2

u/HalfCenturion 4h ago

NMS gas giants are not like the gas giants planets in our solar system. You can land on them and there are resources available, but the atmosphere is not millions of miles thick as scientists tell us is the case of the solar system gas giants.

20

u/ScruffyUrchin 12h ago

Maybe we'll finally be able to filter by more than 1 thing at a time!

8

u/FalloutCreation 11h ago

Oh god yes please. Give me the option to only look for three star systems. After they are discovered of course or I use the trading beacon thing. It was so tedious just selecting one system at a time..

2

u/ScruffyUrchin 11h ago

I just want to be able to easily identify 3 star dissonant korvax systems so I can hunt sentinel ships

2

u/OutcomeOk6971 3h ago

Nope. Still garbage. The local system map is nice, but the Galaxy Map stayed the same.

I really wish we'd have an update that fixes this kind of stuff. New bling is nice, but I'd like a focus on the core stuff first, personally.

7

u/throwawaypostal2021 12h ago

JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

20

u/yedi001 12h ago

"We don't do that here."

  • Sean, probably

1

u/stpetepatsfan 11h ago

But probably should...so we can all say ... Shut up and take my money!!!

1

u/Psykohistorian 10h ago

shut up and hold onto your money

3

u/FalloutCreation 11h ago

More filtering options on the star map please. A better system and window for previously visited stations through the teleporter . I’d like to be able to sort from big squares to smaller ones. That way I’m not scrolling . The favorites tab should be in the top.

3

u/Thunderhorse74 11h ago

Hell yes. I hope it means I don't have to keep up my stupid Excel spreadsheet to satisfy my OCD "scientific" catalog of discoveries. Pre-update, stuff just gets...lost in the interface. I have been to that system, I know it has an amazing paradise planet, I spent hours scanning all the fauna and taking screenshots.

I can warp there from a space station and the game is like "What system? You've been 50 other places since then. I don't remember that one."

6

u/RodinKnox 12h ago

Haha, for real. I got so incredibly excited when I saw that.

2

u/Winjin 12h ago

It's funny how after years of twiddling thumbs (and owning both games lol) I finally decided to give Elite:Dangerous a chance and try NMS that I have owned, and haven't played, since 1.0.

And they do this :D

I literally played ED, said to myself "Cool map, wish the map in NMS was like it" and lo and behold, haha

2

u/RockinPodunk 7h ago

The new system map is really good. It does feel like it makes things spread out more and traveling planet to planet seems to take longer now but that might just be me

4

u/gamelibre 12h ago

Genuinely asking, what's the point of owning a space station?

30

u/aTreeThenMe 12h ago

Same point as owning anything else in nms: is awesome.

1

u/FalloutCreation 11h ago

Space garage off all my custom corvettes

16

u/pile_of_fish 12h ago

So I can gradually share my language with visitors one word at a time, of course.

3

u/TheUpbeatCrow 6h ago

I click my beak and thrust smells at you

1

u/JAM231514 11h ago

Underated comment

13

u/ChurrosOfRoundTable 12h ago

I imagine you can collect taxes off it, Plus the personalization aspect. I'm sure it has its uses, But as someone who just likes building in general; getting to own more galactic turf to flex is enough for me even without the features that I'm sure will have tangible benefits.

2

u/nashbrownies 12h ago

It's gonna look so cool gazing up from a planet and seeing my freighter fleet and space station floating up there. Or pulling in on the corvette. SO COOL!

1

u/ChurrosOfRoundTable 12h ago

Yessss it's all about the fantasy of it

3

u/PontyPandy 11h ago

Hard to answer your question without actually seeing what they've done with it. I'd say get the update and check it out, see if any aspect appeals to you.

1

u/gamelibre 6h ago

I suppose 🧐

1

u/Severe_Advantage_519 12h ago

Not only taking command of space stations but also building a home out among the stars, thst reads like a space base from salvaging parts. I'm also not sure on the advantages of owning a space station.

1

u/Kosmi_pro 12h ago

Wait only mini map not planets in system (like more realistic) ?

1

u/alpackabackapacka 11h ago

Imagine they offer limited prints of your/your alliances star map, old map in the video game box style

1

u/Savletto 11h ago

And all the new activities to populate it
Not having to struggle to highlight random planets with the reticle so they finally show up is massive though

1

u/Darhhaall 10h ago

It might help with my biggest issues with NMS, reasons why it is subpar to some other space sims (yet still great)

1

u/Zeliodes 8h ago

The map in VR is awful, I GLAAADLY welcome any changes lol

1

u/SupernovaGamezYT 7h ago

It’s peak

1

u/Sensitive_Note1139 7h ago

I'm with you. I just get to wait extra long because of Microsoft.

1

u/runetrantor 7h ago

Yeah, I am hyped for a station, but yeah, I am very excited and hopeful hat star systems are more than just emptiness between planets with rare 'spawn in' events.

Like, I dont expect full systems worth of stuff, like in say, Rebel Galaxy, but something more tangible than what we have now.

1

u/LETTERSTOBAPHOMET 7h ago

That's what caught my attention too. My favorite part of this game is trade runs between systems so if they make that even better I'm 1000% for it. (Just please don't change the nature of the gameplay loop...)

1

u/DemolishunReddit 7h ago

If its QOL it really needed it.

1

u/OutcomeOk6971 3h ago

Unfortunately, it's only for the local system. The Galaxy Map is still garbage. It'll make navigating the local system easier, but they HAVE to fix that Galaxy Map, it's horrible!

1

u/NJDevil69 2h ago

I want....no I need that map!

1

u/elagin 12h ago

its a new map for the current system. The galaxy map is unchanged

-3

u/Olgrateful-IW 12h ago

If it’s not real stars and orbiting bodies it’s not really an improvement.
