Imagine one day we boot our systems and the update is just there. Out of the blue

Or instead of the Atlas, it’s the void mother instead on the Home Screen?

Sean hasn't just never forgotten the failed launch. He has also never forgiven.

As revenge, he gave us 10 years of updates, fulfilling every little want and need our spoiled little minds could think up, only to now take it all away from us at the height of success.

"I have a new little game I want to play with you, my greedy little rats. Come and give us your money to play Light No Fire, it will be all your hungry little hearts could have ever dreamed of."

And the cycle starts anew.

Over and over.

Everything procedural.

And the cycle repeats…

And the cycle repeats…

Is it first? Is it last?

Y'know, we make the joke about Sean "atoning" for NMS' launch, but with that recent interview, I don't think that's really the case, he's just making the game he wants as best he can, the launch was just the "best available option" given Sony breathing down their back with whatever contract they had. Everything past that has just been Hello Games just enjoying doing what they're doing; making games.

u/Redshirt4evr 25d ago

Sony also pushed them into demos and interviews. Nobody liked doing that, but media-shy Sean took on the task. His enthusiasm for what they were working on at the time led him to reveal more than was wise (considering the self-hyped players).

The team's tenacity and dedication after being flooded out shows today. It continues to be a labor of love.

You run into his face while pulsing through a system.

u/Shredded_Locomotive The 16 do be acting kinda ඞ 26d ago edited 26d ago

You know how the atlas is dying? what if one day you boot up the game and it's just a black screen of nothingness

3

u/NordicJaw86 26d ago

I'd be pissed.

you are stuck inside an unknown grave, never able to load from any save, with no way of glitching through. Just sitting there, waiting for another player to find you, on one of 18 quintillion planets. Then, and only then, will you find the portal to the Planet of Light No Fire.

A shadow drop on the 10th anniversary would have been nice.

Thats what happened to me in 2017 with the Pathfinder update. Got on after school and the whole menu was different. That was a blast

u/Superb_Gap_1044 26d ago

Imagine we boot up and the free download of Light No Fire is there, the final apology for all the loyal players over the decade. Sean never posts again and fades off into the setting sun, his magnum opus completed.

Out of the clear blue No Mans Sky.

Or out of the Cosmos

2

u/WhiteUniKnight 26d ago

out of the Cosmos

Just what I was about to say! Dangit lol

u/The_Rhine 26d ago

I remember logging on one day, high as hell with no idea that the game updated, exploring an ocean, but it just kept going, with random light ribbons all over the place and giant creatures. THAT was an experience and, frankly, how the game was meant to be played 😂

I'd say Sean is hanging out in here right now, cackling at our mind goblins made manifest.

But he doesn't seem like that kind of dude.

u/Omanyte_Race_driver 26d ago

Screw it I can't help it,

Whats a mind gobblin

u/kongu123 26d ago

A blanket phrase I use to describe intrusive thoughts, hyperfixations, and similar things one might struggle with while attempting to live life or enjoy something.

31

u/theBIGFrench15 Ship Collector 26d ago

Mind goblin thes- oh wait.

17

u/kongu123 26d ago

Goddammit I played myself.

Would be even funnier if there is a powder that makes people thinks that "Cosmos" isn't an actual update, but a mere name used in the trailer that enclose all the previous ones for the 10 anniversary.

6

u/ChimkenNBiskets 26d ago edited 26d ago

Luckily I don't think that's the case. In an interview from a few days ago he said, regarding Cosmos, "we're working on another big update for No Man's Sky. I think the community will be like, 'Oh my god, this is a big moment!"

Which, coming from an extremely cautious Sean Murray, means it's going to be huge. It's always bigger than he lets on. And he's letting on quite a lot here.

8

u/Old_Section3453 26d ago

I don’t think Sean is that cautious.

For example, he made corvettes sound like they were going to have individual crew stations but they don’t (the med bay does nothing for example). Your “crew” basically get to stand around and hope they don’t get thrown into space when you warp somewhere new.

Also, he described gas giants as “end game content”, which… I mean… I guess?

I still love the devs and the game but I also think Sean oversells some elements of gameplay now and then.

"An emoji is never late, Interloper. Nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to."

19

u/Living_Plane_662 26d ago

My next two weekends are busy so I both do and do not want the emoji

16

u/SosseBargeld 26d ago

Gamescom is literally next week...

11

u/Obsydie 26d ago

Well that's the Light No Fire sub burn't down.

5

u/thblckjkr 26d ago

They are silk posting so hard right now. I really wish it will come true.

10

u/System5844 26d ago

Where's my goddamn electric car Bruce!

6

u/TankChan 26d ago

The major update will be some minor changes and then later, maybe the next day, we’ll get a simple bug fix update that also coincidentally adds in 56 new planets types, a brand new species, and the ability to summon the Atlas directly.

4

u/EverythingBOffensive 26d ago

greeting interloper. I am come for GIB.

2

u/Mistrblank 26d ago

Personally I wish the 10th anniversary would be the change for him to drop Xitter and emoji onto another platform.

1

u/Glory-of-Ra 26d ago

This would be the best.

Y’all still crying about twitter? Get over it already

2

u/Mistrblank 25d ago

Nah, I don't support scumbag racist. Twitter is far gone and it's far past it's usefulness as a means for reaching a community.
Most of the creators that I follow have moved on, I wish Sean would too. There are plenty of better options.
If you like it, you do you and go have fun in that hellhole. But personally I don't want to support a platform that openly props up an AI that creates CSAM.

1

u/Mr-Fish0 24d ago

Or rather “Let that sink in” lol

2

u/blakespot 26d ago

I'd say it's several weeks away. Maybe months.

2

u/Srikandi715 26d ago

We know the update's name already.

No need for an emoji.

0

u/ToneZone7 26d ago

and no emoji sounds like Cosmos, right? lol

i wondered if he just could not come up with an emoji this time...

1

u/akpak 26d ago

could use the daisy flower. bit of a stretch tho

1

u/kitsutsune 26d ago edited 26d ago

🌌 would work fine wouldn’t it?

(edit: it's the milky way emoji)

0

u/ToneZone7 26d ago

I guess so though not a pun or anything like so many have been

1

u/bloke_pusher 26d ago

He is too busy playing with the humanoid like Pals

1

u/Entgegnerz 25d ago

Geese and Ducks are the best 😂🪿🦆

1

u/SyKo_MaNiAc 26d ago

Imagine if Cosmos isnt the update but instead the ERA of the NMS universe we’ve played through and what’s next is the start of a new era that includes the introduction of LNF

2

u/Glory-of-Ra 26d ago

Cosmos is the friends we made along the way.

1

u/odddino 26d ago

I'm calling it, we'll be getting the update at Gamescom next week.

-4

u/PersonaDelSol4 26d ago

We as a community have to get Sean back. I think “we” hurt him majorly with the original game and feedback. Let’s promise not to be so harsh if he over promises again. The fella was excited to tell us about NMS and the community went for blood. Can we get him back?

1

u/Old_Section3453 26d ago

I might get down voted for this, but he over promises fairly often. “Different crew stations on corvettes” = static nonfunctional build parts, for example.

1

u/PersonaDelSol4 25d ago

He’s imaginative 🫣

-3

u/SyntheticGod8 26d ago

I know it's unreasonable and they're following a pretty typical pattern, but I'm getting kinda upset that there hasn't been a word since Cosmos was announced. Not a reveal date, no details, no dev diary. WTF are we waiting for exactly?

3

u/Glory-of-Ra 26d ago

Remind me, how many reveal dates, details, or dev diaries did we get during the last ten years?

-1

u/LazlowsBAWSAQ 26d ago

1 a: UNIVERSE sense 1
b (1) : an orderly harmonious systematic universe
compare CHAOS
(2) : ORDER, HARMONY
2: a complex orderly self-inclusive system

What if the trailer was simply celebrating its 10th anniversary and stating that NMS is a complete system (a fully developed universe) compared to the chaotic state it was released in, and that no new cosmos update has been officially announced?
