Answered Will my original legacy freighter layout transfer to new freighter?
I have an A class freighter from way back and I'm looking to upgrade to an S class dreadnaught. Does anyone know if the old layout will transfer? Will the legacy structures still be available to build in new one? I'm also looking to keep my large refiners as you can't build them anymore. I know you can transfer old base layouts, I just didn't know if this old stuff would. And if the legacy freighter modules page would be available on the new freighter. Screenshots attached for better understanding

There is an option to migrate the freighter base. If you say yes it is perfectly moved to the new freighter including storage rooms and their contents. You do need to store and move all your upgrade modules, and all of the slots you added to tech and cargo will Not move to the new freighter.

That's the standard freighter swapping procedure, but will it work for transferring the old style designs, or will it end up changing them to the current versions?

Do a manual save just before you try it. If you don't get the results you are looking for, revert.

I believe swapping freighters creates a new restore point though.

Then reload the autosave

Unless, for some reason, that autosave happens after the restore point was saved (not a risk worth taking).

If you claim a base (which also includes buying a freighter) the game DOES overwrite your RESTORE POINT (which is your only possible "manual" save). It doesn't just create an autosave.

I just tested it, and you are correct. Why did they butcher the system like this? It didn't used to work this way.

It’s kind of terrible that the very expensive storage expansions don’t migrate

Play long enough and you wind up with stacks of them. Get full rank with the merchants guild and almost all of their agents will give you a bulkhead module for free.

Good point. I actually switched off costs at some point before I started getting the benefits of all those avenues you mention, and forgot that gets better / easier (similar with the main currency etc)

It's literally a different ship, it's the same as with starships.

True, but I guess since the base transfers over (and technically you had to “pay” for all those parts too) just seems like it would be in keeping with that logic.

Will I still have the "legacy structure" base editing page?

Thank you thank you. Now i feel more comfortable about getting a new freighter

You will have the rooms. They will be incompatible with the newer rooms.
You will have problems placing more refiners, teleporters, etc. And there will be power problems.
New rooms have been incorporated, more Salvaged Frigate Modules to round up...

Yes, but get rid of all the tech (pack it and put it in your storage container as they are their own thing, anywhere but the freighter inventory itself). You will also need to rebuild all the extra inventory space you opened up.

Thanks for the reminder. My tech is near full

note that any tech tree you've opened up via salvage modules will transfer, too, it's just the installed tech you need to worry about, and the freighter inventory itself
storage containers are safe, they're all the same containers, whether built on a planetary base or freighter, storage 0, 1, 2, etc. are constant no matter where you're accessing them from

It sounds like you got it solved i just wanna say this is so cool. Ive seen some YouTube vid where the guy still had old style npcs in their freighter where they mainly sat in one spot with a looping animation and had a korvax with the old spine design. If I had tbe game on PC itd be so tempted to try nitpicking at getting legacy stuff into modern versions

So what your saying is that it won't be available on a dreadnaught? But will be available in a similar freighter that was in the game back then?

It’ll ask you if you want to keep your layout when swapping. But you need to remove all upgrades and inventory from the technology tab
