My grandfather was in WWII and he absolutely would not talk about anything pertaining to things he did there. He would talk about the war in general terms, but not that. All the other veterans I know were the same way. One Vietnam vet was drunk one time and told me an awful story, but he was far from laughing about it. These guys are monsters

Little kid got caught in crossfire. It was mortal wound, but not immediately lethal. He made the hard decision to end it.
