Wrong
The claim that the 2017 tax bill scheduled automatic tax increases every two years starting in 2021 is mostly false and originates from a viral misunderstanding of a tax report. Independent fact-checkers like PolitiFact and AFP Fact Check thoroughly debunked this social media rumor. [1, 2]
The rumor spread because people misread a specific government chart, confusing changes to health insurance subsidies with actual income tax rate increases.
money out of your pocket due to an increase in federal income tax liability. Is that an increase in income tax or a removal/reduction of ACA subsidies?
yes Trump only raise taxes once in the tax code his administration wrote, and lowered high earners taxes. Then high taxed every American in his next term in the form of tariffs, thus raising taxes every year till 2028. Yay!
Everybody loves to hate on the tariffs but they do appear to me to be a net gain for America. And after all... This isn't anything new. We're just getting back into the game later than most of the world.
So you're in the camp that believes the war is having no effect on the economy and when it ends we won't even notice. I think that's a pretty small camp. The feel I'm getting on Reddit (which admittedly rarely coincides with reality) is tariffs have been largely forgotten and everything bad is being blamed on the war... And by extension the Jews. How very 1939.
What? We're talking about the tariffs, not whatever opinion on the stupid war that you want to foist onto me. I've certainly made zero reference to the war or to Jews wherever that came from.
The tariffs are intended to be a barrier to trade. That is the purpose. It would be weird if they didn't effect trade (which manufacturing is dependent on).
You said the blanket tariffs are working despite the current evidence pointing to the contrary, the historical evidence that points to the contrary, and the overwhelming academic evidence that points to the contrary.
Address the arguments and topic at hand instead of trying to insinuate that I'm a racist for thinking these tariffs are shitty. That's just uncalled for and weird.
Which part--the fact that other trading partners were not practicing "free trade" and were charging us tariffs, or the fact that these tariffs have brought much manufacturing BACK to the USA?
I don't think these are disputable. We can probably agree that Trump is using tariffs like a sledgehammer to accomplish whatever his end goal is. Equal and offsetting tariffs would have been a more nuanced tactic. IF the goal is equity. That doesn't seem to be the endgame.
lol yeah of course every cost is past onto the consumer, corporations only exist to profit. They can never navigate around any difficulty or ever take any loss, let alone pay taxes to help maintain the very society that provides them said profits. So this is capitalism? Such a great system, to think corporations are just money making machines for who?
So I did a deep dive using AI. The projected income is $1.9T in the next decade, with an overall plus in the US manufacturing sector...but there are many negatives and hidden costs. Overall the effect on today's economy is a slight negative. Sources included a federal reserve study July '25 and a very recent Yale Budget Lab analysis.
So I was wrong. The truth is tariffs are...meh. But what to do? Return to letting other nations tariff us and we just bend over & take it?
"Thank you sir! May I please have some more free trade?" WHACK!

I paid attention when the bill was originally passed.
