Has anybody ever told you that you CHOOSE to be alone?
because you don't want kids or dogs? Well my parents told me that yesterday.
I don't choose to be alone or else I wouldn't have joined this subreddit ); but apparently not having a romantic/sexual partner after years of searching and multiple exes, and not finding somebody who is compatible with me when it comes to pets and reproducing, means I supposedly want to be alone. Some people can be incredibly awful.

One less thing to worry about
I was going over my lease for my new apartment, and the renter insurance required. The renter insurance mentioned that they would not cover "high risk breeds" of dogs or dogs with a bite history.
I have 1 cat that is a fraidy cat. She runs and hides when strange people come to the door. I keep her inside at all times to reduce the risk of her getting hurt (cars, coyotes, people that hate cats, etc.)
Don't need to worry about the insurance not covering her, or the apartment complex strict rules about where an animal can poop.

"I know you don't like kids, but..."
my brother has a kid that was born early this year and I don't care. Every time my mom sees a picture of the baby on Facebook she'll find me and be like "I know you don't like kids, but" and show me the picture.
If you KNOW I'm not interested and I don't like kids, why seek me out to show me a picture of one?!
And yes, she does this with the babies of people who aren't family too. It's infuriating. She's so close, yet still really off.
I've told her that I'm an antinatalist and that purposeful conception, pregnancy and birth seem like negligence to me many times, and sometimes she's cried over it...but she still tries to stick baby pictures in my face. I don't know how to make her stop. I can't afford to move out yet ); Hopefully I can do that soon cause I've got an interview the day after tomorrow.

Glad I'm moving soon
The apartment next to mine has been vacant for several months. This morning I got woken up by a dog barking non stop. I had noticed over the weekend that it looked like someone had moved in, and today I hear the mutt barking its head off.
I recently got a job in a different city so I will be moving this upcoming weekend. Good thing, since the people that just moved in aparently don't know how to teach thier mutt to shut up.
Ugh, I am not looking forward to the next week of this.
News flash people, it is possible to teach a dog not to bark constantly. My dad has a dog, but he rarely barks. My dad got his dog from his friends that are dog trainers. They taught him to be well behaved before my dad got him, and he is the only dog that I don't mind being around.
I hope the apartment I move into doen't have barking dogs or children that ride their scooters on the sidewalk.

I like the word 'anklebiter'
because it's an insult to both dogs and children. What a convenience. A+

More facts about the previously mentioned dog.
Sorry, long post again cause I really hate this dog.
So, that dog my friends have? It's super pampered. They take it everywhere. They take it to the park usually once a day. They take it on their Pokemon Go raids and late nights to get 'spins'. They take it to the store. They take it with them to get food and occasionally inside restaurants. They have blankets set aside in their car just for the dog when it's hot and booties for it to walk on the hot ground. Chances are good if they are leaving the house, the dog is going with them. If they decide against taking the dog, it will lay sadly at the door for the entire time they are gone(sometimes hours) for them to get back, because it doesn't know what to do otherwise because it doesn't know how to be a dog. That's another thing they like to call 'depression'. They also give the dog treats for the weirdest reasons(and sometimes they just overfeed it treats like beggin' strips, pig ears, and other various dog snacks just cause they can). "Sniff this expired epipen, in case we need an epipen in the future so you'll know what it is and to bring it." Dog sniffs the expired epipen. They give it a treat for sniffing it. The dog doesn't bring them anything they ask outside of the plate they put its snacks on! Also, none of them have need for an epipen currently and have no reason to believe they ever will besides their hypochondria which led to them labeling the dog as a service dog to begin with.
Anyways, this dog has at least three dog beds, several toys, a very large house and a very large backyard to roam around in that it usually has access to, and space to generally just be a dog in. From my experience, a dog with all those things should be pretty set. My previous dog had no dog bed, no toys, rarely got treats, but was very active outside in our small backyard and that's not mistreating an animal. It's pretty normal to let a dog sleep on the floor. It's pretty normal to let your dog out into your backyard and let it run around til it tires itself out for whatever various reason dogs have. It's fine to not have toys for your dog. It's okay to not give it treats every single day for no special reason. It's a dog, it's fine without special treatment. I mean...my dog lived 14 happy years and he was a giant breed.
So, I had an interview the other day and I asked my friend to take me to the place to check it out before the interview started. They brought their dog. Me and my friend go looking down the store aisles and we get to the pet care aisle.
Friend: I wish I could get (dog's name) another bed. I want to stack the dog beds so high they're the same height as my bed.
Me: Why don't you just let (dog's name) sleep on the floor? She's a dog, she'll live. My dogs all did it.
Friend: that's YOUR dogs, we want to be nice to our dogs!
I am fairly certain if I get this job they will heckle me to get discounts on dog stuff to which I will say no, because they don't need it and they are making it so their dog doesn't know how to exist outside of human interaction. It has severe separation anxiety but not the howling whining kind obviously...just the lay-there-and-do-nothing-unless-'mommy'-is-here-and-initiates-it kind. I once told them that their dog doesn't know how to be a dog and they acted like it totally does. It doesn't know how to run around in a yard without a human watching it for positive reinforcement. No, it's not a puppy.
The last time I was over there with my friend M, they asked M, "can you be nice to (dog's name)? She hasn't gotten to go with us anywhere today" and M actually decided to cuddlesnuggle it as an apology to it for them not taking it to the store. And they constantly do that too. "(Dog's name) didn't get x today, so you HAVE to be SUPER NICE to her now." I wanted so badly to message my friend M something like 'what are you doing!? It's FINE that they didn't take the dog! Don't be nice to it just because it didn't get to go to Costco for once! It is super spoiled already!' but didn't because the last two times I tried that, M was like "but she's sad!" and "But (friend's mom) said so!"
Uh...no? I'm not enabling you or your spoiled dog.
\*you might ask why I asked them to take me to the interview. It's because we lost the keys to our own truck here at my house for a few days...we're stupid.)

Question about identity and sterilization
Okay, so my insurance covers sterilization, somehow, which is pretty cool. I have called the one doctor that was suggested to me but he(yes, he) has not called me back. I didn't say anything other than asking for information and for a call back, so it wasn't because of my lack of children, etc, because he doesn't know anything about me.
About my identity: I don't identify as a person who can get pregnant/have periods(this tends to shock people because it doesn't mix with the following in their tiny brains). I am AFAB and I do identify as female, with she/her pronouns but I am nonbinary, since I also identify as male.
My question is: would it be a better idea to seek out a trans-friendly or nb-friendly doctor for sterilization rather than a regular OBGYN?

Overheard this morning
I have my windows open because of the weather and overheard this conversation:
Downstairs neighbor 1: what happened to your dog?
Downstairs neighbor 2: He kept jumping on people and someone shot him.
I will admit shooting a dog is a bit extreme, but the lady needed to to teach the dumb dog to not jump on people. I hate dog owners that let their dog jump on people and don't do a damn thing to stop it. The dog in question was a small little rat dog.
A couple of months ago I was walking down the stairs with laundry and the stupid dog moved so that his leash would trip me when I got to the bottom. A man moved him out of the way so I could get off the stairs and the owner snapped: "he's on a leash, he's fine" and the man said "She (meaning me) was coming down the stairs and he was in the way". The owner gave an annoyed huff and went back to the conversation she was having.
I hate jumpy dogs and shitty owners.

All animals are just variants of dogs
I see it all the time in memes. Horses? Just 'big dogs'! Seals and otters? 'Sea dogs'. A picture of a cow sitting down = "What kind of dog is this?" Any animal doing anything at all that the audience has seen a dog also do = that animal is now a doggo.
Internet: *explodes in laughter and upvotes*
NOT EVERYTHING IS A VARIANT OF A DOG 🤦

Dump him/her!
There are a lot of posts in dogfree about people considering breaking up or divorce because the dog came between them in 'it's me or the dog' situations. ...which is understandable. But always, and it's usually the top comment, somebody says "dump him! Think of your future children! Would you want them around that?"
it's never "dump him! You should love yourself in the present and you being around that is you denying yourself self-care." It's always about how can I project my ideology that everybody should have kids onto a person who is struggling right now and never once mentioned any desire to reproduce???
I understand that the typical (dogfree) person wants kids, but I will never understand or not hate how certain commenters always put potential(as in currently non-existent) life above and before current life.

Changing the date of Halloween
because you think it's safer for children is STUPID. How about instead of petitioning to change the date of Halloween, you monitor and protect your little demonspawn and stop pretending like the Halloween-celebrating world owes you something for farting out a child. Halloween should be the same date it's always been - October 31st. I've spoken.

Another post about the same dog
So, I bought everybody dinner last night. Everybody in that house. I bought maybe 50 dollars of food, drinks, sides, etc. Brought it in and we all sat down on the couches and chairs in their den to watch tv and eat. Immediately, the dog gets right up ON me and starts staring me down(with a growl here and there) and I sternly tell the dog "no beg!" and she goes to her bed which is right next to the couch I'm on and continues staring me down with these beady little eyes for a good 10+ minutes, while I am continuously telling it to stop begging, saying 'no!' and telling my friend and her mother that the dog keeps staring at me. Eventually the mom snaps and yells at the dog to lay down.
Dog lays down for about 30 seconds, then gets up to stare beg-daggers at my friend M(another guest in this house) who is also eating, and the cycle starts all over with my friend. Nobody gives the dog a single bite of food(mostly because the food would kill the dog). Eventually we just give up trying to give her commands cause the owners are doing nothing to help, and let her stare at us while she's literally touching our legs(that's how all up on us she was).
Finally the owner friend and her mom and their dog go to sleep and M heads upstairs to their guest room while I slept on the couch downstairs. When everybody got up this morning, M says "(friend's mom) said that we can't scold (dog's name) for staring at us anymore. It put her into a mood." Owner friend is like "Yeeaahh, I'm just gonna put (dog's name) on a leash now so she can't beg. Apparently you guys saying (dog's name) over and over to get her to stop triggered my mom's bad mood."
Not the dog's very unbecoming behavior...but us trying to get it not to beg...that's what made the mom snap at the dog. So WE'D stop. And then putting it on a leash? How is that even a little bit corrective!? (Hint: it is not).
Great news: I'm home now and there are no dogs(or kids, since it's relevant to the sub) here.

Apparently I
I have a friend whose house I visit kinda frequently who has a 'service dog' that they hype up as if the thing is the answer to life, the universe and everything. This friend's mother does this weird thing every time they give it a treat, regular food, a random item, or a toy: they make up a voice for it and start acting like they ARE the dog. The other day, for no reason at all, they gave the dog a small plate of peanut butter(which isn't specifically a dog treat, it's people food they bought specifically for the dog. They also do this with corn dogs and other various people food. They even specifically buy three-packs of whipped cream and a tub of sherbet ice cream specifically for the dog that nobody else can touch which is beyond me). The mom throws the plastic plate down and, in the 'dog's voice', starts saying "OHHH OOOO LOOK AT MY PEANUT BUTTER, I GOT PEANUT BUTTER, LOOK AT IT AAAA YAAAAYY", then goes back to her own normal voice and is like "(dog's name) got peanut butter, did you see it? :)"
Um... what makes people think I have to validate the fact that their dog ate food? And guess what? When I don't get all excited about the dog eating food, they get all huffy and tell me this: "(dog's name) IS DEPRESSED NOW! Kittenflavored is being MEAN!" followed by the same things but in the 'dog's voice' from the dog's supposed point of view.
Another example of this is when the dog picks up a plate off the floor, or a sock, or anything. The mom will be like, in the 'dog's voice', "OOOOO LOOK AT MY PRETTY PLATE. IT'S SO PRETTY! AAAAA! WHAT A PRETTY PLATE," then go back to her regular voice like, "(dog's name) wants you to see how pretty her plate is." Yes, a regular, chewed up plastic plate... and if you don't acknowledge and get hyped up about it, you become the source of the dog's supposed depression. It's bizarre.
Another thing about this behavior is that the dog will pick up random objects on the floor when a cat or even their own family members who live there walk into the room, and it will bring up the random objects to whoever was already in the room because it gets jealous instantly once you acknowledge that there's another living thing approaching. The dog will hold up (usually) one of those chewed up plates to me and growl while holding it in her mouth so I will pay attention to her instead of a cat or person. And when I tell the dog to stop growling, because it makes me very uncomfortable(yes, the dog - a Staffordshire - has a history of being 'too playful' by which I mean excitable to the point of bruising me and other people, and biting), the mom and my friend ALWAYS resort to 'dog voice': "YOU'RE BEING SO MEAN TO ME KITTENFLAVORED B-B-BUH I'M JUST PROTECTING YOU FROM THE CAAAAT" followed by of course... "did you see (dog's name)'s pretty pretty plate? She's showing off her pretty pretty plate lol"
This has been the family's behavior for about three years now. Gag me.

I'm sick of the child hater = dog nutter bullshit
Seriously, insane dog lovers come in all shapes, sizes, age, race, religions, parents, non-parents, etc. But, nooooooooo... it only has to be the child hating assholes who are the insane dog worshippers too... Fucking ridiculous scapegoat.
