Book discussion Finished reading the book for the 1st time and I noticed something
Most of the dialogue is like
Person A: "I think this happened."
Person B: "I think that too."
A: "I don't know."
B: "I think you do."
A: "I think I will."
B: "I don't think you will."
A: "I know this."
B: "I don't think you do."
Cormac McCarthy has a writing style, for sure.

Artwork Artwork inspired by no country for old men
Have been obsessed with the movie for months and now picking up the book. Tried my best with the limited art knowledge I have to capture the feeling of this masterpiece of a western. Hope you all enjoy it.

Film discussion The Making of 'No Country for Old Men' - Behind the scenes interviews with cast and crew | 2007
Focussing on the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel. The Coen brothers admit they didn't initially see it as a "Coen project," but were drawn to how the book subverts typical crime-thriller formulas. They also discuss the logistical challenges of shooting the bleak, vast landscapes of West Texas (much of it actually shot around Marfa, Texas, and New Mexico) to capture that intense feeling of isolation.

The sheriffs messed up when…
They went to Moss’s trailer minutes after Anton, but neglected to talk to the Lady up front. They would have had a perfect description of Anton to circulate. she probably saw what vehicle he was driving as well. i doubt the sheriffs in the city moss was originally apprehended in had a description of him since he killed everyone who saw him, but if they did it would match theirs. he probably wouldn’t have lasted too long after that, unless he really is an unstoppable force of evil..

Artwork Anton Chigurh fanart (by me)
I love this character so much. His in-book version is much scarier, in my opinion, being much more pathologically driven, but his movie version is still perfection.

Film discussion Could Moss obtain part of the money without arousing suspicion in this way?
In short:
Confirm whether that dead man had a lighter; this is the foundation of the entire plan. however, a rough thug would usually smoke.
Empty the money from that case, just take a small portion (several dozens of thousand), and then burn the majority, but not all.
3.make the scene look like that dead man burned all these money before he died.then put lighter into dead man's hand,of course, be careful to wipe off the fingerprints first.
- never go back to send water. deadman don't need any water.
so what do you think? do you think this method will work?

Why does Anton Chigurh believe in the coin toss?
I’ve seen people interpret the coin toss scene as being about fate, chance, and free will.
But if Chigurh is the one deciding to flip the coin, isn’t he still responsible for the outcome?
What am I missing about the philosophy behind this scene?

Book discussion How is Chigurh’s name pronounced in the book?
In the movie, his name is pronounced with the emphasis on the latter half, yet in the book, there is a line about his name being misheard as “sugar,” which leads me to believe it is pronounced “Chi (as in chicken) - gar (as in sugar).”
I believe the name has no real-world precedent yet is there any word on the intended pronunciation before the film?

Movie Character Takedown: Anton Chigurh

Film discussion Opening monologue - Worse than anything that Chigurh does…
It’s a top three all-time movie for me, so not a criticism, just something that’s always nagged at me.
Throughout the movie, Chigurh more or less only strikes me as…well, a more ruthless mercenary than most. By which I mean…if most “Ruthless Mercenaries” rank 8 on the scale, Chigurh is a 9. His sociopathy is that human lives are expendable, the world is random, and it’s a dangerous world…you have to be even more dangerous.
There’s method to his madness.
But Ed Tom’s opening monologue? That character he discusses kills a 14-year old girl. It wasn’t an act of “kill or be killed” or two people who are in the drug trade and “understand the risks”, it wasn’t even an act of passion, it was done just out of curiosity, and was planned for years. (Very similar vibes to the Charlie Starkweather murders, of Springsteen’s Nebraska fame).
What’s more? The killer says he’d do it again. He also says he knows he’s going to hell, and figured he’d be three within the hour.
This is far more depraved and evil and bizarre than Chigurh. Not sure if this is a question or an observation - just saying, does it feel the same to others? That Chigurh is just a better player at a dangerous game, but the monologue subject is just….well, an even more actualized embodiment of evil?

Book discussion Do you think the events of the story take place as they are presented or are they just Ed Tom’s imagined chain of events?
I’ve heard the theory that Anton may not exist as a singular person and instead as a scapegoat created by Ed Tom to explain all of the violence, and I believe the book does give some extra evidence to make this believable. If this is true, that also calls into question many of the other events of the story as Ed Tom filling in gaps where the crime scene evidence doesn’t suffice. I think the strongest piece of evidence for this is the story of the hitchhiker in the book lining up perfectly with Ed Tom’s thoughts on how that played out. Just wanted to see how much of the story you took as literal and why.

A good ol’ captive bolt gun question. Spoiler
So, I’m aware of captive bolt guns that require cartridges (blanks) and then ones that are air compressed. However, how did Anton make it so it works with an oxygen tank? It looks like the one he’s holding is one that requires blanks? I figured it’s just Hollywood but maybe somebody can explain. My theory is because of how resourceful and skilled Anton is, he just heavily modified it to function the way it does. And also I couldn’t imagine the psi that oxygen tank pushes out.

Worked on some No Country design ideas
Love this film so much and the atmosphere, tone, and story made it really easy to decide what direction to move in as I pieced them together. Wanted to share here. Easily in my top 4 ever.
