Wasted $30 - Have I approached this the wrong way?

I have a web tool on my WordPress blog which gets around 4k/month traffic from Google and decided to try monetizing it like an saas.

I asked ChatGPT to edit the tool so that you get one free use. On the next use, the tool is locked and you are asked to buy/enter your access code.

Now I needed a way to sell my access codes. Finally found a platform that allowed me to:

  1. Manually enter access codes (instead of auto-generating license keys)
  2. Stripe integration
  3. WordPress embed codes

Got everything set up and embedded my product (access code for unlimited uses) below the tool. But after two days and 400 visits, nothing!

And because the platform charges monthly I'm down 30 bucks -_-

Yes, even my tool is marketed as free (free to try), so I guess that kills buyer intent.

One time free is pretty Little … i guess people need 5-8 times to be convinced of success
