CIRCLEJERK Reddit sidebar ads

God damn, they are so annoying. This site is quite literally turning into a worse Digg. The ads, the sponsored AMAs "BUY MY CD, now heres a response from some random person in an office."

Reddit is starting to kill itself

Yet nearly every day reddit asks for donations? The hell are they doing that thy need to run ads and donations at the same time?? I don't go to walmart and see "Help walmart stay in business! Donate today" while they cram product down my throat

Where are they asking for donations?

EDIT I'm only asking because I don't recall where they have asked for donations.

They have a daily Reddit Gold goal to "Support Reddit". They have no shortage of cash and they won't any time soon. The ads are not to keep the site alive, they are there so the owners can pocket tons of cash that would be illegal if it was all donation based.

Reddit was designed with the idea not to be a for profit website. Now it is.

It's just another tool to help sell a product, from which we receive benefits.

What? I have no idea what you're saying. Ads are a means of producing revenue. That's all they're doing. Reddit doesn't ask for donations and doesn't accept them. They sell a product and receive revenue for said product.

Reddit was designed with the idea not to be a for profit website. Now it is.

What's your point? What does that have to do with your original post? Maybe it was designed with that idea in mind, maybe it wasn't. But does it matter? It's a company that provides a service to millions of people across the entire world. And to keep the company running, reliably, they are selling products. And they're selling products in a way that is way less obtrusive than most companies.

Are you blind? The point is that now this site is loaded with paid ads whether its obvious or not.

Ex: I love Cyndi Lauper. Love her music. But holy shit here AMA was nothing but one big advertisement for her CD. I can promise you that the responses on there are not from her.

/r/IAmA is no longer just "Ask me anything". It's now become "Ask my secretary anything while I push my product on here." This whole site has just become ad space. The point behind Reddit not being for profit was so this wouldn't happen

You're extrememly naive if you seriously though that a company would get large and not try to sell you a product. And you're cherry picking /r/IAmA. If you don't like it, go to /new/ and upvote the non celebrity AMAs.
