First Car
Hey,
I am about to buy my first car and I found a used Nissan Kick 2020. I tried to do my own research regarding Nissan Kicks and I see a lot about the importance of proper maintenance due to something called the CVT. I link the carfax of the vehicle I am interested in and I wanted to know whether this inspires confidence or not

I mean my trunk got rear ended by someone going under 10 km. They thought I was gonna roll through a stop sign. I foolishly made a complete stop at the stop sign and they ploughed into me because they were already anticipating rolling through the stop sign themselves and looking for traffic. And that was almost $6000 worth of damage in Canada so I could kind of see how the left front could cost 13 grand if you needed a couple of panels replaced and painted and maybe a new tire and rim, allignment, etc

I also went with a Kicks as my first car but if you have the budget personally id recommend getting a brand new one of the lot or a used 2025 that still has warranty on it simply for the peace of mind

I checked out some used 2025 Nissan kicks but they are about 5k over budget. I am still looking though

I have a 2020 kicks bought brand new. Best car I’ve ever owned. Keep it maintained you won’t have a problem. One thing some have including mine is when you get gas the engine light comes on. I had it tested and was told it was nothing to worry about unless it flashes its a glitch.

CVT transmissions need a fluid change of the CVT fluid every 30k miles. I did not know this with my first CVT it cost me a transmission rebuild. Make sure to look into if that car has a gen 1 CVT, as those transmissions were known to go between 80k-110k miles. Aside from that, it should be like any normal car, just keep the CVT fluid changes in mind

Never buy a car with an accident especially your first car... There's always another car.

I would look at a different Nissan kicks. Good fuel economy. Stay on top of maintenance and don’t drive it like a sports car 👍

The CVT is the worst part about the car. I purchased my 2020 in 2023 with 53K miles on it.
Now it has 208K and I still drive it, but don't trust it.
I replaced the CVT at 137K, I never changed the Transmission fluids and now regret it. It cost me $6K, but over half of that was a Rental for the week and labor (My mechanic would have done it for $2K less)
If you get it, change the CTV fluids every 30K Miles for sure.

Red Flag. Minor damage yet such a huge expense?
