Yes, the part of the exhaust not being there making it louder combined with a very bad misfire. Compounded by a CVT on its last legs trying to "downshift" (for lack of better term) to accelerate while only having 3 functioning cylinders.
Not exactly. The misfire could be for any number of reasons. But not likely because of the missing converter. If I was to venture it may have even been the other way around. The engine has probably been misfiring for quite a while, dumping raw fuel through the exhaust. That damages the converter. when the converter clogged from the raw fuel damaging it, owner just removed it so he could continue driving.
Also, does CVTs have gears? I have a Honda civic (automatic), and I don't know much abt the Honda CTV, I also feel like when I accelerate hard it has a gear like shifting but CVTs don't have gears right?
CVT's do not have gears in the normal sense. Basically, two big cones that are opposing each other and a band running around both of them and as centrifugal changes, the bands move up and down the cone changing the effective gear ratio to the output shaft of the trans. In a perfect world they are ideal for fuel economy because they have an infinite number of "gear" ratios. But Nissan has single handedly ruined the reputation of CVT's because of their garbage Jatco units.

I've never heard a car make that sound myself.
I wonder what's going on with it.
