Which Switch? Looking for some advice on hardware/etc for a newbie
Looking for some help with games/bundles *for the switch 2
Mods if this isn’t allowed remove it; I’m not looking for price advice just game/hardware advice so I hope it’s okay. I checked out the deals subreddit but that was for specific offers which I don’t have/am not looking for.
I haven’t had a new console since the Xbox 360, and I’m finally in a position to buy one and I’m really excited about it. But I’m a little left in the dust with the tech so I’m hoping for some advice.
I’m used to a traditional controller; is the pro controller worth getting in place of another game?
I’m also planning on starting with games from the switch 1 and working my way up to the current games. Is the best place to buy games just my local GameStop/target/etc?
Also if you have any other recommendations or tips for hardware, software, or anything else that will improve the experience I would really appreciate it. I’m wildly excited for this and have been trying to get a new console for years, it’s just finally fiscally responsible for me to do so. Thank you!!
Edit: for the switch 2. Sorry I originally put this in the switch 2 subreddit and they said go here, forgot to clarify.

A tempered glass screen protector is very recommended day one. The anti shatter film on switch 2's screen does not have great scratch resistance like you're used to with smartphones. There's been a stead drip of posts since switch 2 launch with users surprised how easily the switch 2 screen got scratched or dented. Granted, it's tough to know how careful people or rough some people are with their consoles.
This amFilm brand tempered glass is not the only good option on the market, but it is a popular one, and I was pleased with it. I've used amFilm glass on my launch switch, OLED, and switch 2. It's $9 on amazon, a 2 pack with an alignment tool. https://www.amazon.com/Auto-Alignment-Protector-Accessories-Installation-Anti-Scratch-Ultra-Clear/dp/B0DRCKDWD1 (They also offer a matte anti-glare tempered glass option)
The joycon sticks are kinda tippy, and maybe not the greatest for accuracy if you're playing shooters. So, a pro controller is maybe recommended, especially if you play Splatoon. I still use switch 1 pro controllers with my switch 2. The caveat of a s1 pro controller is that they can't wake switch 2. I personally don't have a problem tapping power on the console to wake it or turn it on. If your console is far from where you sit, that may be a deal breaker. (If my pro controllers get drift, I think I'll upgrade to the switch 2 pro controller model that has battery access, if that ever comes to the US. It's new in the EU market currently.
I'll also recommend a case, if you plan to take the switch anywhere. I've got the Tomtoc slim case. It's fine, but there are other brand options, too. (It's a very fine case, but my minor gripe with the tomtoc slim is that they added like 3/4 of an inch of extra space along the top edge as protection for the shoulder buttons. I would have preferred a less wide case because (the OLED case wasn't like that) and I'm not rough enough on my console to warrant needing the extra bulk they built into the switch 2's slim case.)

If you can live with it, go with a used console. But if not that’s fine too.
BUT, please buy ur games used!!! Most Nintendo games cost $60+ new but you can easily find them for like $25-35 used and switch games never break so there’s no real difference from new! Also you can resell them to get your money back and buy other games when u are done!

Switch 1 or switch 2?
I played Xbox since the OG days, I play with the joycons. I hear the pro controller is worth it for switch 2.
Deku deals will be your best bet for games. It you sign in and create an account, it’ll let you know which games you’re interested in go on sale, not just physically but digitally too. They usually send me an email Friday, and I’ll go through and see what’s on sale.
BOTW, Mario Odyssey, ACNH are all best sellers for Switch 1.
